Registration: Part Payment Option now available

Thank you for your feedback on the new ABF imposed online registration system. The majority of feedback I have received has been in respect to the difficulty some of you are having to afford paying full fees at time of registration.

I have now been able to work with Baseball SA to find a way for our Club to accept part payments for Divisions 1-8 and for Under 15, 17 and 19. Little League and Tee Ball fees seem reasonable to pay in one payment, as there is significant extra administration work involved in accepting part-payments. As you all can appreciate, your Committee are all volunteers, so I am trying to keep the additional work for our club volunteers to a minimum whilst trying to address the feedback I have received for the cost of registering for the more expensive Divisions.

For these above mentioned Divisions, you firstly need to pay your per capitation fee. You cannot register on the new system without paying your capitation fee and you will need a credit card available at the time you complete the online registration process.

You cannot play without paying the per capitation fee, so registering over the next week is essential, otherwise we will be forced to have teams forfeit!!

Your capitation fee and insurance fee means that you have insurance in case you are injured, so as you can appreciate the ABF will not allow players to take the field without this fee being paid.

Once you have paid your capitation fees, I have broken up payments into three equal part payments. You still have the choice of paying your full fees for the above mentioned Divisions and I would encourage as many of you as possible to pay the full fee up front, given that the Club has the expense of equipment etc at the start of the season.

Please log on to the ABF online system to register and pay your fees as soon as possible!

I will write to you separately about the final cut off dates for the other 3 part payments, if you choose to pay part payment instead of the full payment.

Jessie Packer, RIP

It is with regret that I write to you on behalf of Bruce Packer, Sturt Baseball Club Life Member who has advised me of the passing of his mother Jessie Packer on Monday 30 th September 2013 at the RAH.

Jessie's funeral will be conducted on Thursday 10th of October at 1.00 p.m at Charles Berry Funeral Home Magill Road. A funeral notice is in today's Advertiser.

Bruce supplied me with the following information about his mother's involvement in our club:

"Mum was a great supporter of the Club in the past, and in the days when we conducted the annual garage sale at the club, she would operate the plant stall, which invariably was located out in front of the club, in all sorts of weather conditions. She would come prepared with her thermos, folding chair, rug and a brolly, prepared for all eventualities. She would spend many hours potting plants in preparation for the event, and enjoyed friendly banter with Dick Catt and Bob Booker, the Garage Sale stalwarts of the time.
When she was unable to come and watch her grandson play she still keenly followed the Club's fortunes via the sports results in the papers, and regular reports from myself."

On behalf of all members of the Sturt Baseball Club, I am sure you would join with me in passing on our condolences to Bruce and Ben at this very sad time.

Net Development wins planning approval!

It is with immense pleasure that I write to advise you that earlier this evening at a meeting of the Development Assessment Panel at Mitcham Council approved our application to erect netting at Norman Reserve!

I would particularly like to thank Peter Duffield for his tireless work on developing the whole plan and for the countless hours that he has spent ensuring all documentation was developed correctly. Thanks also to Darren Noble for his expertise in assisting us with a number of the elevation diagrams that required his expertise. I would also like to thank Michael Hutchison from Access Planning for his professionalism in developing our submission to the Development Assessment Panel. It is a mark of the combined expertise of this great team that resulted in the application being approved without any additional changes from the Panel.

I would also like to acknowledge the support shown by the Minister of Recreation and Sport, the Hon Leon Bignell and by the Office of Recreation and Sport through its Executive Director Paul Anderson in providing financial assistance when it was badly needed to progress the planning development phase and also for the grant of $75,000 which is half of the money required to erect the nets. Thank you also to Dr Andrew Southcott, MP, Member for Boothby for the committment from the Liberal Party for the other $75,000.

I am also pleased to advise that tonight I have forwarded back to the Mitcham Council the final minor changes we have for our licence to play baseball on Norman Reserve and to occupy the clubrooms for the next 5 years. I anticipate to be in a position to sign the licences within the next week. Our club owes a great deal of gratitude to Bill Last, Principal, Last and Co Lawyers, who has spent an inordinate amount of time reviewing many drafts of the licences and ensuring the best interests of our club were reflected in the licences. On behalf of all members of the club, thank you Bill for your generous support of our club.

Thanks also to Phil Martin from Michels Warren Public Relations for his assistance with our media relations associated with this campaign!

Peter and I also met with Council administration at the club earlier this week to finalise repairs to our clubroom which we flagged with Council just over 12 months ago after our clubroom was flooded. Following that inspection Council put forward into this year's budget to undertake the repairs. I believe that this work will be commencing shortly.

The Sturt Baseball Club can now look forward to an exciting era for our continued presence at Norman Reserve secured for the next five years. Thank you also to all our club members who have offered our Committee and me personally enormous support over the seven odd years that we have been working toward this result!

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our first A Grade Game at Norman Reserve on Sunday 20th October 2013, 3.00 pm.

Go Saints!

Pre-Season Update 29/09/13

The Division 1 and 2 Schedule is now online at Baseball SA website. Our first home game is scheduled for Sunday 20th October 2013 where our Division 1 and 2 sides are scheduled to play West Torrens. Other schedules will be announced shortly!

With only a few weeks to go I implore you to register as a player through the online Registration system as a matter of urgency! Training Schedules for all teams are now online on the front page of our website.

All training sessions unless otherwise advised by the coach will be conducted at Norman Reserve. Our Grounds Supervisor David Lee has asked me to advise all teams training to keep off the main diamond until further notice. A big thank you to Sam Duffield and Sam Hollis and the Division 6 boys for assisting in dressing the infield.

I also attach a Aussie Tee Ball Flyer promoting what we are calling the Sturt Little League Academy which will run on Friday nights commencing Friday 25th October 2013. I am aware that we are currently in school holidays, but if your child goes to a primary school please distribute this flyer in schools at the start of Term 4 as we need numbers by the 18 th October 2013!

I also remind you about the Hall of Fame and pre-season dinner which will be held on Saturday 12th October 2013, 7.30pm at the Spice Kitchen - 252 Kensington Rd, Leabrook. Please refer to my previous posting in relation to the details. Final numbers are needed by this Friday to Taylor Devine including payment.

The Sturt Baseball Club has secured the services of two fantastic young baseballers from the US for the upcoming season. TJ Macy is a personal friend of Angus Roegers and Curran Redal has been referred to us by Travis Fox.

We are seeking assistance from our Club Members for some accommodation for the summer. Both players will be working and be able to contribute financially. They will also have transport.

If you are able to assist in any way please contact Tony Catt (0412244327) or Peter Kitchingman (0417 029 174) as soon as possible.
