Online Registration now open!

For the 2013/14 season, the Australian Baseball Federation (ABF) has introduced a new online Registration process which replaces the online system previously used at our club. Southcott pledges $75k toward nets

It is with great pleasure that I advise that Andrew Southcott, MP, Member for Boothby called me earlier today with the exciting news that a Federal Liberal Government if elected will provide $75,000 toward the cost of our netting.

A full media release is available on Andrew's website.

On behalf of the Sturt Baseball Club I would like to sincerely thank Andrew Southcott and the Liberal Party for this generous pledge.

I am delighted that both the Federal Labor and Liberal parties have agreed with my previous call for a bi-partisan approach to the funding of our nets.

With the full funding of our nets now assured, our last hurdle is to gain approval from the Development Assessment Panel (DAP) to erect the nets. The Panel meets on Thursday 3 rd October 2013 and I will write to you again after this decision.

As you are aware we will not be able to play Senior Baseball on Norman Reserve without this approval.

Your Feedback

Thank you everyone for your feedback following State Government announcement on funding for our nets and the Federal Labor Party committment of $75,000 toward the nets if re-elected.

Many of you have asked me what Andrew Southcott's position is on this matter and as I do not know I suggest you email him directly to ascertain his level of support for our club.

It would be great if a number of you could email him directly since as I said yesterday I believe this issue should be supported by all sides of politics.

Exciting news for our club

Today has been a very significant day for Sturt Baseball Club with notification from the Office of Recreation and Sport that our application for financial assistance through the 2013/14 Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program has been approved for $75,000.

This is an outstanding outcome for our club and really forms the basis of being able to look forward with confidence that we will be able to fund the net construction which is estimated to be in the order of $150,000.

I would like to publically thank the Minister of Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell for awarding the Club this money which means the world to us! Without the strong support of the Office of Recreation and Sport and in particular its Executive Director Paul Anderson our club would not have been able to raise the necessary funds to continue to play senior baseball on Norman Reserve.

In addition to the funding from the State Government, the Rudd Labor Government today committed $75,000 in funding to help secure Sturt Baseball Club’s future at W A Norman Reserve in Mitcham if re-elected to Government.

The Minister for Sport, Senator Don Farrell, was joined at the announcement by Labor Candidate for Boothby Annabel Digance, which will see essential new nets provided to the club so that it can remain at its home in Mitcham.

I had the opportunity of meeting with Senator Farrell, Annabel Digance and Mayor Picton at Norman Reserve earlier today for this announcement. I took the opportunity to thank Annabel for her strong support of our club and I hope that all sides of politics would agree that sporting infrastructure is critical, not only for the 250 junior and senior members of Sturt but also for all kids growing up in this area.

Thanks also to Peter Duffield who attended to answer any technical questions about the netting construction and to Sam Hollis and Shane Horne who took time out of their day to come out in their uniforms so that we could all get photographed by the Messenger!

There is now one last step before construction of the nets can occur which is the approval of our development application for the netting which is currently being assessed by one of Mitcham Council's Development Officers. The public notification period finished yesterday, 12 August, and Mitcham Council are finalising the feedback received.

At this stage the Council anticipate that the application will be presented to the Council's Development Assessment Panel at their meeting on 3 October 2013. I will keep you informed on progress.

Fund raiser for Ky Hampton

Please find a flyer from Jo & Wade Hampton detailing a fund raiser to help their son Ky to represent Australia in the 2013 Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen Maryland US of A in August.

The fund raiser will be held on Sunday 21 July, 1.15 pm to see the movie The Lone Ranger at the Wallis Cinemas Mt Barker. The cost of the tickets is $17 each.

Please contact Wade on 0434 340 368 or via email.

As a club we congratulate Ky on this well-deserved achievement and wish him all the best.

This lad has talent and this experience will be another step in his development. Not only will it help Ky but it will be of great benefit for his team mates and his club.

So, if you have nothing better to do than watch on a good movie for a good cause on a cold winters Sunday afternoon take a ride up the freeway and pop in to the Mount Barker cinema and watch a good movie and support a good cause.
