Mitcham Council grants 5 year licence!

At tonight's Mitcham Council meeting the Sturt Baseball Club was granted a five year lease to play senior baseball on Norman Reserve subject to an agreed plan for netting to be put in place on the ground.

Thank you to all of the Sturt supporters who came out tonight! The 100- odd supporters really helped us!

I would particularly like to thank the residents of Mitcham, particularly those in close proximity to Norman Reserve who showed overwhelming support for the continuation of senior baseball on Norman Reserve.

I need to publicly thank Paul Anderson, Executive Director of the South Australian Department of Recreation and Sport, who without his strong representations to council tonight, I very much doubt we would have been granted the licence. Your support of community support is greatly appreciated.

I would also like to thank the Councillors who supported the motion, the CEO Matt Pears and Mayor Michael Picton.

Our next steps are now to submit a funding application through Recreation and Sport to assist in the funding of the nets.

I would also once again like to thank Peter Duffield who is the mastermind behind the net design!

Your help needed on Tuesday night!

Just a reminder that the Mitcham Council will make a decision at its meeting on Tuesday night, 7 pm in the Mitcham Council chambers on whether the Sturt Baseball Club will be able to continue to play Senior baseball on Norman Reserve.

Your support for your club as this historic meeting is essential!

Junior players please attend in uniform!

This is your last chance to demonstrate to the Mitcham Council how you feel about our senior players still be able to play on Norman Reserve!

Presentation Weekend Wrap Up

Our Club held its Senior Presentation Night on Saturday 23rd March and its Junior Presentation Day on Sunday 25h March 2013

In my opening address to both events, I reflected on my observations of the 2012/13 season which included welcoming our new A Grade Coach Peter Kitchingman. This year we lost some 20 senior players all for unavoidable reasons, such as moving interstate, travelling overseas etc. This left a big hole to fill which Peter and his team managed very well, by promoting a number of promising juniors into Senior ranks.

As you know this season has been dominated with our continued quest to continue to be able to play senior baseball on Norman Reserve. On Tuesday night, 26 March, the Mitcham Council will be making a decision on whether we will be able to continue to play senior baseball on the ground that we first played on in 1961. If it were not for the innovative design by Peter Duffield as to how to reduce the risk of ball exiting our ground, we would not be in the position we are with an opportunity to argue for a five year licence to play on the ground. The work and dedication including the never say die attitude of Peter has got us into the position we are at this time. It was therefore my pleasure to announce that Peter Duffield is this year's winner of the President's Award for this outstanding contirbution to our club.

Everyone has a part to play in our club being given an option to continue to play baseball at Norman Reserve, please come to the Mitcham Council meeting, this Tuesday night 26 March 2013 in the Mitcham Council chambers to show your support for the club. Junior players please come dressed in club uniform and everyone else please wear club polos or other clothing to show your true colours for our club!!

Well done to Division 8 who were the only Senior side to make finals this year. Well done to Phil Martin for coaching the side to this level of success!

Once again our Junior programme was outstanding with our Under 17, 15 and Little League teams all playing off in Grand Finals. It is a testament to our junior programme that we had teams play off in Grand Finals for each year level we participated in.

Congratulations to Little League 1-Saints who were Premiers for the fourth year in a row! Well done to Jamie Knuckey who has coached the side to the last three premierships! Well done to the Under 15/1- Sturt side, coached by Jeff Nicholas who also won a Premiership for the club! Commiserations to U17/1 - Sturt and the Under 15/2- Sturt side who both played off in the grand final but were unfortunately defeated on the day.

In my address I thanked all the coaches, scorers, umpires and other officials who have put in so much for our club! Our Club could not function without you!

Council Decision on Norman Reserve

I write to advise you that the Mitcham Council will be receiving the results of the Council Survey Report on the future use of Norman Reserve next Tuesday night 26 March 2013 at 7.00 pm.

I am informed that the Council Agenda and the Survey Report will be online on the Mitcham Council website later in the week.

After five years of cooperating with the Mitcham Council, a decision is most likely going to be made at this meeting.

It goes without saying that if you care about the Sturt Baseball Club, then you need to be at the Council chambers next Tuesday night to show the Council your support for our ground. This may in fact be the last time you can demonstrate your support! I implore you to attend!
