Update on Senior Teams

I am very pleased to advise that for this season, we will be having Division 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7 sides entered into the competition.

This is an addition of one full senior team, namely the Division 7 side.

On behalf of the Senior Committee I would like to publically thank Chris Small who has worked tirelessly in the off season to achieve this outcome!

With the advent of a Division 7 team, I have been asked to email all members to see who would be willing to assist with umpiring for either Division 6 or 7.

In regard to Div 7 we play 9 home games, so we are looking for a number of volunteers who could assist.

Please email Chris Small to express your willingness to assist.

Mildren Masterclass Course Bookings Open

After a successful 2010/11 debut, the Mildren Masterclass is back again, bigger and better!

This season we have opened up places in the Mildren Masterclass to all players from all parts of South Australia. We have also broadened the skills sessions to include hitting, fielding and baserunning.

This is a wonderful opportunity for players looking to take their game to the next level and be taught by some of the best coaches in South Australia.

Paul has an outstanding baseball background. He has represented his State and country at both Junior and Senior levels and was part of the Florida Marlins organisation for over 6 years. Most recently Paul was the runner up in the prestigious Helms award for the most valuable player in the Australian Baseball League.

This course will be run over the entire summer season and will involve both theoretical sessions and practical sessions implementing what you have learned.

The course will cover areas such as -

  • Pitching - Mechanics, Conditioning/Strength, Game Management, Stretching/Recovery

  • Hitting - Mechanics, situational

  • Fielding - footwork, glovework reading the ball.

  • Baserunning - understanding situations, reading the pitcher

  • Catching - calling a game, working with pitchers, blocking

Paul will be inviting leading specialist coaches and players (such as Tom Brice) to come and offer their knowledge to participants on different skills throughout the course.

The course will be run at a cost of $250 per participant. The course will commence on Monday October 24 th. Paul will outline the course content and session times at this first meeting. It is anticipated that there will be one session a week on a Monday night. We anticipate there will be 6 sessions before Christmas and 6 after. All sessions are to be run at the Sturt Baseball Club.

This course will be open to players aged 13 or over.

There are only 15 places available for this wonderful opportunity so make sure you book your place early.

To book, please email Phil Robinson at president@sturtbaseballclub.org.au to secure your place! First come, first served - so be quick - registrations will close on September 23rd.

Registration Day Reminder and Season Update!

I write to you to remind you that Registration Day is next Sunday 4 September, commencing at 11.00 am at the Club.

Thank you to all those people who have registered online at the Sturt Registration and Payment Centre. I would encourage all of you to register online if you intending playing this season before next Sunday as this helps us enormously with planning for our teams. There is no need to attend the Registration Day if you have registered online. The main reason to attend Registration Day is to pay your fees (cash /EFTPOS facility available) or to purchase goods such as your uniform or equipment as Emmsee will be in attendance.

For senior players who are new to senior ranks and require a playing number please email me at president@sturtbaseballclub.org.au stating your preferred number preferences and I will then liaise with you over the number that is available.

Division 1/2 games commence on Sunday 9 October with Division 3 and below commencing on Saturday 15 October. Little League through to Under 18 commence on Sunday 16 October 2011. The programme for Division 1 and 2 is now on our website, however as in previous years please be advised that this may be subject to change before the season commences.

As you are aware from previous communication Chris Small has been assessing whether we have enough interest to field a Division 6 as well as a Division 7 side this season. In order for us to register two sides with Baseball SA it will be necessary for significant interest to be shown which would mean we would need around 25 players registered for the season for this to happen. Time is running out, so if you have an interest please register online before next Sunday so we can make a final assessment or contact Chris Small on 0407 397 363 to discuss the committment required. The idea of having 25 players is to enable people not to have to commit to play every week.

Also as you are aware the Sturt Tee Ball Club has now merged with the Sturt Baseball Club and will return to Sturt on Friday nights commencing Friday 21 October. There will be two levels available Aussie Tee Ball which is designed for Under 8s and Rookie Ball which is designed for Under 10s. We also have a category of registration where players can register for both Rookie Ball and Little League at hugely discounted rate. This category is for the more advanced Rookie Ballers. Further information is available from our TBall/Rookie Ball Coordinator Richard Stranger on 0466 960 866. If you are a parent of a child in these age ranges we need your help to promote this new Friday night competition. We have developed a flyer which you can download and distribute to schools and other groups to promote this activity. Any new members should be directed to our Sturt Registration and Payment Centre. to register and also remind them to list the school to which their child attends as a number of groups are registering school teams. It is planned that there will be two sessions on Friday night, 5.30-6.30 and 6.45-7.45 pm. Registrations close on Friday 23 rd September so please make every effort to assist your club in promoting this great initiative.

I am pleased to announce that this year we have a range of new merchandise available for purchase via our online store.

Our club cannot function effectively without the generous support of our sponsors. Please visit our sponsorship page for further information on the packages available. Enquiries regarding Merchandise or sponsorship opportunities should be directed to our Sponsorship and Merchandise Manager Dean Franke on 0428 821 008.

If you have any questions regarding training times or specific information you require about a particular team please visit our website and go to about>people where all relevant contact details for coaches, managers and officials is available.

For those of you new to our club, please remember that if you have a mobile phone you can visit the mobile version of our website on Saints Mobile Edition by simply typing in our web address.

Good luck to all the players with pre-season training and please remember to register online as soon as possible!

T Ball returns to Sturt Baseball Club!

It is with much pleasure that I write to inform you that T Ball will be returning to the Sturt Baseball Club this season after many years of it being run separately by the Sturt Tee Ball Club.

After some weeks of negotiation with the Sturt Tee Ball Club it has been jointly determined that it is in the best interests of both clubs that the two clubs merge.

As a result Tee Ball will now be returning to the Sturt Baseball Club and will be played on Friday nights at our grounds at Norman Reserve.

The programme on Friday night will be for two age ranges under 8 (as at 31 December 2011) which will be run as Aussie T Ball and under 10 (as at 31 December 2011) which will be run as Rookie Ball.

The programme will run in school term 4 of 2011 commencing on Friday 21 October through to Friday 9 December and again in school term 1 of 2012, recommencing on Friday 3 February through to Friday 30 March.

Registration for these two competitions is now open via our online registration page.

The cost to register for either Aussie Tee Ball or Rookie Ball is $80. Visit the online registration page for details on how to pay. Registrations close on Friday 23rd September.

For the younger Sturt Little League players there is also a category of Registration for both Rookie Ball and Little League. Please select this category for the team and also for payment details when registering.

Also to assist us in team placement please also include the School that your child attends when registering for Aussie Tee Ball or Rookie Ball.

Fort those of you with children in this age range or if you have contacts in local schools I attach a flyer which I would ask you to distribute widely in order to promote the competition.

Further information on Aussie Tee Ball or Rookie Ball is available from our Aussie T Ball/Rookie Ball Coordinator Richard Stranger on 0466 960 866.
