Grand Final Match Reports

After last week's abandonment of the Junior Grand Finals due to heat, the SABL came up with a very sensible way to ensure that we could complete the Grand Finals for juniors despite the record breaking heat wave we are experiencing!

Well done to all three teams who made the Grand Final, the Sturt Baseball Club is very proud of your achievement in reaching this pinnacle of success! It was great to see that we won two out of the three Grand Finals!

Congratulations to the Little League 2 Blues Team coached by Derek Matthewman and to the Under 14 Sturt Team coached by Garry Wood for both taking out premierships! Please visit the front page of our website to see some very happy faces from both teams!

Commiserations to the Under 16/2 Sturt side coached by Chris Small who despite a last innings rally ended up loosing by a heartbreaking one run!

At the SABL Junior Awards night, congratulations go to Brodie MacBeth (Under 12 Little League Minor South) and Simon Evereniadis (Under 16/2 – Saints) who took out the top award for their respective Divisions. Congratulations to both of you! A full list of the Junior Awards winners is available on the SABL website. The Top Ten players for each Division is also available.

The Capps Medal Presentation was held at AAMI Stadium Convention Centre last Wednesday night, and I would like to congratulate the SABL on the outstanding job they did which came across extremely professionally! Well done to Don Wulff who finished equal second with 14 votes for Division 5.

Congratulations to Paul Mildren and Tom Brice who were the only two South Australians selected in the Australian Team which has been recently playing in Olympic Qualifying tournament in Taiwan. Whilst it was a disappointing end for Australia, our Club is very proud of the fact that the only players from South Australia in the team were from Sturt!!

Under 16/2 Sturt (Coach: Chris Small)
We started of well, lost our way in the middle and finished strong but unfortunately not strong enough going down in the six by one run 11 to 10. If we had been able to play the full seven innings I believe that it would have been a different result but the Heat Rule was not in our favour.

Credit must go to West Torrens they played well and came back at a time when we had our lapse. The boys showed some great spirit to come back from 11-4 down in the last to get within one run of a tie and force another innings. We started of well scoring 3 in the first and one in the second while keeping West Torrens scoreless. Their bats came alive and ours went to sleep, in the next three innings they scored 4, 1 and 2 while we went scoreless. In the last they scored 4 and we needed 7 to tie or 8 to win. With two out and one on first base we had our backs up to the wall and when West Torrens first pitcher had thrown his 90 pitches we came alive again but it was always going to be tough with two out.

We had some errors in the field and hit a few pop ups, when we have been over the last two weeks or so good in the field and the batters box. Jayke and Jai pitched well and Jackson did a great job behind the plate all day in the hot conditions. Jai Redigolo had a great in the park home run out to centre field to put us 4 - 0 up but then the brakes came on until the last. We had bases loaded and Jayke hit a double to score three and end up on second, he was the tying run but that is where he stayed as West Torrens got the third out to end the game.

Safe hits: Jarrad, Ben Young, Jayke had 2 each and singles to Jackson, Ben Daws Jai (HR) and Cameron.

I would like to thank Sam Hollis for coming out and sitting on the bench all day just in case we had an injury.

I would like to thank Sue Holmes and Trudi Lightbody for manning the canteen for the day as it meant all parents could watch their child play. I would like to thank Jannette and Paul McKinnon for their support as my team manager and assistant coach. I would like to thank all the other parents for pitch counting and helping with the diamond when we had home games and final I would like to thank and congratulate the boys for a great season of baseball, you played hard, fair and in the Grand Final so be proud boys as I am of what we achieved this season. Hopefully you will all come back next year to the club and we can do it all again

After the delay of last weekend's scheduled game due to the heat policy rule the Sturt boys finally got to play the much awaited Grand Final against their recent nemesis in West Torrens. Given that West Torrens hadn't been defeated in over 2 seasons we certainly went in as the "underdogs" but I expected a bold showing and in fact I had stated to the boys that I expected to win !

After a very emotional start to the pre game warm up where we paid respect and spoke about some of our greatest supporters who couldn't be with us, the boys got really fired up and played with great spirit, determination and heart to battle out a high class lead from the front win.

This was a team win and individuals don't win Grand Finals but I feel I have to mention 2 players in particular. It isn't easy to talk about your own child but I thought Harrison was magnificent, going 5 ˝ innings on the mound and hitting 3 two baggers from his 4 at bats ! Matthew Macbeth also shone through the game as one of our team leaders with 3 safe hits and successfully closed the game after a few anxious moments!

But this win was about the team. All of the boys contributed in some form with either great catches , solid fielding , great hits and general encouragement for their team mates. This was about us being a champion team and was an advantage we thought we had over our opposition prior to the game. We were right !

I would like to thank all of the supporters who have supported me and the boys not just yesterday but all year. I would also like to thank the boys who have spent time on the bench during the finals, you have not complained and have just been great support for your team mates! You know who you are and I have thanked you before but again well done you are fantastic role models and should be very proud!

This was a very special and emotional win for this team. The people that were there witnessed a great game from 2 great teams and I think we witnessed the making of some great base ballers but more importantly great characters!

GO STURT AND AGAIN WELL DONE !!!

My thanks to all my helpers but in particular to Rick Mitchell , Rick Trembath , Tim Zak , Michael LoBasso, Julie Macbeth , Jo Trembath and Steve Lemon.

Sturt Little League Blues v Goodwood

Played at Goodwood

It was a tense lead up to the Grand Final, with the game being called off due to last weeks hot weather, combined with the uncertainty of the hot weather forecast on Sunday. The only practice we were able to have during the heat was to take the boys to the batting tunnels on Saturday morning.

The team were excited 9 am Sunday morning – nearly as excited as the parents.

First inning we scored 2 runs with Reuben and Damon making it past the plate.

Then Zac stepped up to Pitch, his was in great form, good accurate pitching, Goodwood had also been to the tunnels Friday night, but they were no match for our in form fielding three out from the first four batters.

Then back to bat again, this time Scott Reuben Damon Lachlan and Zach all made it home before the mercy rule of 5 runs per innings was called. Zach managed to bring in 3 of those with a great 3 bagger and aggressive running.

Goodwood up to bat and 5 batters up with three of them sitting straight back down with fantastic pitching again 9 strikes from 12 balls.

Third innings; Oscar started us up, holding his nerve to get a walk, Alex was the other player to make it home. Going side away with two players on base with an out at first from Lachlan. With the score now 9 – 0 was starting to feel comfortable.

Goodwood was back to bat, first player hit to Oscar and a routine out at first. next ball was hit right out to left field good fielding from Samuel kept it to a two base hit. Next batter hit out on the third base line for a two base hit bringing one runner home. Reuben fielded and put out the next batter at first and Oscar and Reuben took care of their last batter.

Back to bat for the blues Zach hit a great ball to centerfield and was told to go to second but a great throw put him out. Oscar hit the ball to first and was out. Samuel came up to the plate for his first bat of the day. Two down and was able to hold his nerve on a full count to get a walk Alex came up and was also given a walk then Scott came up and smacked the ball getting both Samuel and Alex home and making it to 2nd Reuben made it safe to first and batted Scott to third. We were now on 11 –1 with two innings to go with runners on second and third with two players out. Charlie stepped up to the plate and wham- hit the ball thru second base to centerfield, bringing home Reuben and Scott. We were then in an unbeatable position 13-1 and the game was called.

The Blues team have won the game not because they were standout players but because the boys have really played as a team; everyone has always been supportive and very encouraging. It has been my pleasure to be part of their team. It has been very encouraging to be part of the boys’ success a well deserved win topping of a great season.

Thanks must also go to all the parents; I have had a lot of support and encouragement, made coaching a lot easier.

SAINTS v WEST TORRENS 02/03/2008 16-17

2-8, 2-9, 6-9, 6-13, 10-13, 14-13, 16-17

This game should have been ours. Unfortunately, as we have done a number of times throughout the season, we have allowed the opposition to take a (handy) lead in the early stages of the game. When this happens, we then have to ‘catch up’, as was the case yesterday. And, as with past games, the team did it & did it well.

We went in to the final innings with a 1 run lead, extended that to 3 at the top of that innings but unfortunately WT closed the gap to 1, & with 2 out, managed a safe hit across shortstop which brought 2 more runners home to time & game 16-17.

Throughout the game, WT had the knack of lobbing the ball between our in-field & out-field positions. They did this consistently throughout the game but there wasn’t much we could do about it without exposing (more) gaps in the field.

Once again, batting, base running & fielding was good. We had our share of fielding errors but that’s just par for the course, particularly when you are playing in a semi-final & nerves come to the fore - & more particularly against an opponent who, in yesterday’s game “loaded” their bench with 8 players in lieu of their normal 2 or 3.

How is this allowed to happen, particularly in a semi-final? It would be interesting to see if their ‘extra’ players had in fact qualified to play in yesterday’s game?

Well done everyone for playing as you did yesterday AND for the way that you have played throughout the season. Your behaviour on the field has been exemplary & for this, I thank you.

You are a great bunch of guys (& gal) & I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as your coach – although at times I think that you were coaching me.

Whilst I started the season on my L’s, I think that I can now safely progress to me P’s.

I think the boys got a bit of a shock yesterday when the coach arrived in an unfamiliar aggressive mode and demanded an improvement in a number of key areas !

He got the improvement big time!!

This was a real danger game for us as Kensington are a big strong team with 3 Under 16 boys playing under special permit in their team as they couldn't field an under 16 team this year!!! (Shows how strong our junior programme is with 3 under 16 teams). After a sluggish start in the first innings the Sturt boys really hit their straps and dominated the rest of the game.

One of our team leaders in Matt Macbeth got us started with a long solo home run in the second that was followed by consecutive hits to Justin Zak, Harrison Wood, Shaun McFarlane, Jared Lobasso and Dakota Mitchell to score 5 runs for the innings and relieve some of the pressure.

The bats rallied again in the 3rd for us to score the 7 mercy rule runs and put the game pretty much out of Kensington's reach.

Dakota Mitchell pitched a solid game although his strike % was down he rarely missed the strike zone by very much while Justin Zak pitched well when brought in to relieve. Macca did a great job behind the mask in one of his first catching performances in recent times.

You can see from the safe hitters list that all the boys enjoyed one of the teams better hitting outings of the season and all contributed to the result. I need to point out that both Billy Burford and Matt Macbeth both had 3 walks for the day so didn't have great opportunities to hit.

Again there was improvement in the "small things" particularly in regards to the level of support of our batters and in the field. We need to keep up the effort this week against West Torrens in the Grand Final if we are to have the success that we all desire.

Look after yourselves this week and let's prove who the best team in this competition is! Good luck boys, believe in your ability, and be the best you can !!

GO STURT !!!!

What a disappointing end to the season!
With no excuses, we were beaten by a much better side on the day as well as us not being competitive enough.
The entire team struggled all day!
Thanks to Smally and Norm for their assistance during the week.
For the season though, finishing third was probably a true indication of our standing in the competition and the lads should be commended on the positive way they played throughout the year and may have finished higher had their skills improved more (practice is the key).
Many thanks to Karen for all her effort throughout, Sandra for scoring, Jenni for pitch count, Paul and Milton for grounds and other parents that helped through the year.
It was fun and hopefully some experience was gained in this great game and the boys continue playing in the future over and definitely out !

Little League 2-Sturt (Coach: Don Wulff)
Blues 12 d Sturt 1

After a super performance last week to get us to the prelim final we met our match in a red hot Blues team, losing 12-1 at Norman Reserve. We now throw our support and best wishes to the Blues in the Grand Final.

While the Blues hit well it was the slow rollers that hurt us early. Hayden Emery pitched well and did his best to keep us in the game but in the end it was their good batting that allowed them to pull away. Defensively, Tyson Ottoway did a great job catching in only his third game behind the plate. Ty made a memorable catch of a foul pop up in this game. Offensively, we looked a different team than we have for some time, swinging at lots of balls out of the strike zone. Chris Wulff was our batting star with two nice hits.

In the end we could not match the Blues offensively, nor could we match them defensively. The Sturt boys tried hard and wanted to win but this day the Blues were simply too good.

Our season will not be defined by this game, however, as the boys have done extremely well and I am very proud of them.

The diamond looked a picture this morning thanks to Gary Wood and others.. and the boys came out to play!

Led by Zack again throwing well we jumped out to a good start and were never headed… some very solid batting right up and down the line up made it a strong win – particular mention to Alex and Zack for 2 inside the ground home runs… and Damon who came out looking to hit and had 2 very strong rips!

Final score 12-1 – let’s take those bats into the Grand Final against Goodwood next week!

Sturt Tee Ball All Stars – Round 3 Carnival – Southern Districts
Once again the improvement in the squad is there to see and very satisfying for all … great discipline and focus led to a strong showing.

First game was against East Torrens, and a solid demonstration of concentrated fielding and good placement with the bats made for a very strong start – 3 innings mercy ruled with 7 runs scored.

However, as we got deep into the game the concentration started to lapse and East Torrens did stage a bit of a return - but our lead was far too strong and final result was 26-11

The second game against Kensington was always going to be tough with the seasoned opposition “hitting for the fences” and unfortunately finding holes in the outfield too often.

Our bats went to sleep and the game got away from us in the first few innings, but to their credit, Sturt never gave up and did do their best… next time guys!

In the third game we tackled the home team of Hawks – and with the score all square at 7 each after the first innings and we knew we had a game on our hands!!

To the Sturt team’s credit, and despite 2 hours of tball Sunday morning followed by the two previous games, they dug deep (and were helped by AJ’s regular dispensing of jelly snake power pills!)

And turned it on… the fielded, hit and ran like they had just started the day! Final score? 28 -13….

An excellent effort all round… and despite many worthy contenders, the MVP for the day’s carnival was judged to be Arno Norrito – well done all and thankyou parents for setting up, coaching and scoring!

Final round – Sunday fortnight 16 March – 1-5pm at Waite Uni grounds (Sturt home ground) – come out and watch some of these future stars!

Week 20 Results and Finals Draw

Sunday was a big day for the Sturt Baseball Club with all junior teams competing in finals! Congratulations to all the players coaches, managers and support staff for this magnificent outcome!

We still have a number of our junior teams in the finals race! Click here for game times!

Our Division 2 team played off against Glenelg on Sunday for a spot in the B Grade Grand Final and unfortunately were defeated. However, I believe that this has been an outstanding result for our Division 2 team and full credit goes to all the players who were involved with Division 2 this season and particularly to Tom Winter as their coach. I spoke to a number of the boys on Sunday and I know that they are bitterly disappointed about not making the grand final but as I said to them they have had a magnificent season and we could not have hoped for a better performance from our lads.

Our Division 1 side finished off the season with a loss to Kensington at home, but once again there has been a solid improvement in our Division 1 side this year and I would like to once again acknowledge Head Coach Tony Catt who has worked tirelessly throughout the season and pre-season with the Senior Squad.

The Sturt Baseball Club is keen to continually improve its performance and as such there will be season debriefs for both the senior and junior coaches so that we can improve for 2008-09 season.

I also have feedback from Mark Snelgrove on the inaugural All-Stars Little League Playoff Series where Sturt was well represented.

Tyler Lunnon, Ryan Cross, Brett Colmer and James Snelgrove all contributed towards the Adelaide Southern All-Stars defeating the Adelaide Northern All-Stars in the recent event, which was held at Softball HQ at West Beach. The best of 3 series was won in 2 by the South.

SABL appointed Sturt U14 Coach Craig Gillespie as the Southern All-Stars Assistant Coach. Craig and the boys now will represent SA in the Australian Little League Championships to be played on the Gold Coast in June 5-8th.

Winners of the National Championship will be the first team ever to represent Australia to compete in Disneyland Hong Kong for the Asia-Pacific Series. Winners of this will venture to the US to play in the World Series at Williamsport PA.

Congratulations to the boys and Craig!

Our social event at the Hawthorn Bowling Club on Saturday night went very well with a large mix of senior and junior players in attendance. I think all of us who bowled could see that the game had a simple objective but getting your ball to roll close to the jack was another thing altogether!! There were many competitive performances as you would expect but all in all, the feedback I have received has been that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!!

Thank you to the sponsors and past players who came to the club on Sunday. It was great to see a number of the past players at the Club and to the many sponsors who also joined us. The sponsorship this season has been outstanding, with our best season to date! We hope that these sponsors will join us again next season!

Upcoming Social Events for your diary!

Please remember to put in your diary that the Senior Presentation Night, which includes Divisions 1-6 and Under 18 will be held at the Club on Saturday 12 th April 2008, commencing at 7.00 pm. The Junior Presentation Day will be held on Sunday 13th April 2008 commencing at 1.00 pm. This event will also be held at the Club! Please mark these dates down in your diary!

The boys were keen to put in a good showing for the last game of the year and in front of a large home crowd. Kensington sent our nemesis to the hill, Michael Ewart and he did a stellar job holding the Saints scoreless through 8 innings. TJ Stanton threw well for the Saints, only giving up 1 earned run but it was to no avail as we lost 7-0.

We made a few too many mental errors on the weekend which cost us but the boys never gave up and fought the game out to the end.

Facing Glenelg in the Preliminary Final was an excellent test for the young Saints and they played excellent baseball for much of the day. Unfortunately the boys were unable to capitalize on early opportunities (left 9 runners on in the first 4 innings!) and this came back to haunt them in the end. Shane Horne pitched magnificently for 7 innings and the game was 0-0 in the bottom of the eight innings. However Glenelg grabbed their chances and scored 4 in the inning to run out 4-0 winners.

This team has had an excellent season and should be congratulated on the attitude and performance.

We played West Torrens at home in the first final with the winner going straight into the Grand Final. We have played them twice through the year losing both games but when it counted the boys came out firing to win the game 10-1 to book themselves a Grand Final berth. We started with Jayke Wayne on the mound and in the first innings had three up three down with a double play, this set the tone the boys would play through the whole game. Jayke did a fantastic job on the mound throwing 6 and a half innings with 10 strikeouts, 4 walks and only giving up two hits for the day. Jai Redigolo came in to finish of the game and only had to throw 12 pitches. Jackson Mignanelli was behind the plate all day and again was solid. We had no errors in the field with some good plays from the boys when they needed to. A great catch was taken by Brett Mulryan out at left field and Adam Hofmeyer was quick to get a ball hit to the fence at right field in to stop the runner at second. It was tuff to get runs but great batting in the box by the boys and aggressive base running we made the runs needed to win the game. We had 5 walks for the day and scored four of those that got the walks.

Hits Jarrad, Ben Daws 2, Jackson, Jayke, Brett, Jai one each.

This gives us the week off for a rest and then a week to get ready to play either the Saints or West Torrens again in the Grand Final.

Boys enjoy the week off and get ready for the Grand Final you have played well all year, lets not let the big one slip through our fingers.

SAINTS v WOODVILLE 24/02/08  22-17

3-9; 5-11; 14-11; 15-13; 15-15; 22-15; 22-17

The nerves were in turmoil for the whole game yesterday, all 3 hours of it. And that was just me – I don’t know about the team.

We last played Woodville in 2 consecutive games at the beginning of December to a 9 all draw & a 15-7 win & haven’t seen them since. Their team line up was basically the same but they have certainly improved across the season, as we have we, so yesterday we had a battle on our hands.

Whilst nerves were an issue for the 1st 2 innings, & with a 5-11 score, the team settled down & started to claw their way back. Josh Grantham was the starting pitcher. He was followed by Ben Papps who threw his full quota of 90 balls. Sam Hollis came to the mound for the last 2 innings & took us out to time & game. This was only Sam’s 2nd time on the mound & he settled in very quickly & did a great job. Fielding started slowly - again, nerves. There were a lot of silly mistakes in the 1st 2 innings but the team settled down in the 3rd & apart from the occasional slip-up, did what they needed to do. Batting & base running was (again) very good with every one scoring. Will Brennan, Sam Hollis, Brodie Blanks, Ben Papps & Simon Evreniadis (who played with a broken finger) each crossed the plate 3 times. Well done everyone.

This week it’s West Torrens & if the team play as they did yesterday, & as they did the last time against WT, it is going to be a Sturt-Saints grand final.

West Torrens 7 d Sturt 5
Once again I have to report that we lost to our nemesis in West Torrens!
In what was a very even game between 2 very even teams, we were unable to bunch our hits when it counted and made a couple of relatively simple mistakes in the field that enabled West Torrens to score unearned runs that proved the difference between the 2 teams.
Jordan Wayne pitched a great game allowing only a few scattered hits before being replaced by Harrison Wood who closed out the game well.
The greatest disappointment was in the boy’s lack of talk and support in the field and several lapses of concentration when running the bases. Again there were a couple of instances when signals were missed or not able to be put on because the boys didn’t look! Our failure to lay bunts at important times also proved frustrating as it is something we have practised week in week out.
Enough about those few issues! There were a lot of positives in the game. The boys made good solid contact against one of the better pitchers in the league all day without any luck and hopefully they now once and for all believe in themselves and their ability to beat West Torrens?
We now play against Kensington at home at 3.00pm who we have had a couple of tight games against this season, so we will need to be at our best to unsure a grand final berth.
Good luck boys, believe in your ability, and have fun doing it!
GO STURT, now more than ever I believe we can go all the way !!!!

SAINTS 6 defeated by EAST TORRENS 16

Well our season has unfortunately come to an end sooner than I had hoped.

We started the game well and kept trying hard but we were beaten by a team that wanted it a bit more than we did. Although we only finished 5th, I feel the boys will be better players in the future as they all now realise there is a lot to learn about the game of baseball.

We used 7 different pitchers during the season and 3 catchers. Everyone got to play both the infield and outfield at various times and players were moved around in these different positions throughout the season, some more so than others but sometimes it's hard to find the perfect balance between what's best for the team to remain competitive and what's best for the player. We had a good mix of 5 first year and 5 second year players who gelled really well.

Our year is now over, so thank you to the boys and I hope you got plenty out of the season.

A big thank you Mark Snelgrove, Mark Colmer, Kerryn Colmer, Glenys Snelgrove, David Lightbody and the late Trevor Colmer for their help in various roles with the team.

Thank you to all the parents for your support and also to our team sponsors.

Under 14 Sturt Teal (Coach: Dean Franke)
Lost to Glenelg 13-14
In a marathon game lasting almost 3 1/2 hours we were unable to head Glenelg in the last as we had done all day.
In a positive fighting manner the team fought back from behind each innings only to fall at the final hurdle with some dubious umpire calls at the plate.
Prior to that though we threw away runs at third by stealing to no signals and then missing signals when we needed to push the opposition.
Overall, we went at 110 % and that's all we can ask for and can hold our heads high as to the way we played the game in great spirit but with great disappointment at the end.
But we live to fight another day and look out Port Adelaide next week.
Highlights were some strong hits from Tyler, Josh, Lazar and Henry and pretty good discipline in the box by the rest of the team.
Henry battled well behind the plate and Matt, Jesse and Hamish worked hard on the mound.
Our fielding left a little to be desired at times but overall a great effort from all in the team.
We are hungry for success by the looks in the eyes and second won't do next week.
Hard work on the track and we'll be fighting again next week to play in a grand final.

Adelaide 10 Defeated Sturt 9

Bad luck guys Adelaide really came out with their best game to beat us today. We have played really good baseball this year and deserve to finish third on the ladder. Adelaide started of the game ready to pressure our side with a 4 run start we then tied the game up by scoring 4 runs in the second to their none. From here on in the game when toe to toe and both teams tied up for most of the day. The seventh inning they only managed to get one batter on and scored him on a foul ball catch. We started our final innings well with Max Geuhrer getting a safe hit from the first pitch, Lewis Brideson then scored him to make the score 10-9 with two runners on. Unfortunately this is how it ended, I am very proud of the way you guys played today and could see the disappointment in all eyes. Boys today will make us all into better baseball players and be happy with the way you all fought so hard to keep up with a much improved Adelaide team.

I enjoyed coaching this year and would like to thank Rick Trembath and Helen Cavanagh for helping me out. I hope to see all players at the presentation day so we can kick the footy and get together and reflect on our year.

GREAT YEAR BOYS , WELL PLAYED.

Little League 2-Sturt (Coach: Don Wulff)
In the elimination final we played the Saints. They beat us last time we played and looked the goods this time as they raced to a 5-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning. Through good base running our boys scored 5 in the 1st without even hitting the ball. Our 5th run of the inning had the boys fired up as Chris Wulff stole 2nd, went to 3rd on an overthrow to the pitcher, and scored on an overthrow to the 3rd baseman - all on the same play!

We then held them scoreless in the 2nd as our pitcher, Hayden Emery, struck out the side. Our boys again piled on 5 runs, this time through great batting and good base running. For a baseball purist like myself a batter getting a hit or hitting the ball hard with 2 strikes is something to get excited about (when it's your team doing it). In the 2nd inning Brayden Richardson, Tyson Ottaway, Hayden, and Harry Tomlian ALL got on base through hard hits with 2 strikes on them. That shows the boys don't panic when they get 2 strikes on them and is simply great great batting!

Hayden pitched the 3rd inning, as well, this time holding them to 1 run. The 2nd out came on a good catch by William Hill in RF. The significance of that play was not only that William made the catch but that our 2nd baseman, Jackson Blanks, ran a long way to put himself in position to catch it if William did not. We again scored 5 runs with hits to William and Brodie MacBeth, as well as Henry Wood scoring his 3rd run for the game.

Hayden has done well enough this year that I expect a lot when he pitches but he was exceptional this game! Brodie MacBeth came in to pitch the last inning. He, too, threw well, facing 3 batters for 3 strike outs.

The boys sang the Club song with great passion, pride, and voice and now look forward to playing the Blues next Sunday.

Little League 2-Saints (Coach: Andrew Lightner)
Team Sponsor: Kensington Financial Services

The Saints concluded a good season with a loss to a very good Sturt team. The game started off with great hitting and base running by the Saints, scoring 5 runs without a single out. However, Sturt came back with their own diligence at the plate and matched our 5 runs. Over the next 3 innings, the Sturt pitchers got really hot and limited the Saints to only one run. Their batters also kept up the fire and scored 5 runs in each of the next two innings. Final score 15-6. Thanks to the Blues for lending us a player, Reuben Bishop. Good luck to Sturt and the Blues in the Finals.

Little League 2-Blues (Coach:Derek Matthewman)
Team Sponsor: Jock Gilbert Real Estate

Well the lads headed to Goodwood with the chance to grab a victory and head straight through to the grand final….
And a fantastic start with 5 runs in the first innings followed by a strong fielding effort led by Zack on the mound throwing again with great accuracy and keeping Goodwood to 2 runs…
The 2nd and third innings saw a see-saw battle with strong hitting from both sides and good effort in the field…
It came down to the bottom of the 5th innings with the Blues ahead by 2 runs … but despite valiant efforts, Goodwood managed to come back and win by one run. 12-11
So.. next week a chance to play off for another crack at them… keep your chins up Blues and you will do well! Derek Matthewman, coach, will be back so we’ll be at full strength!
