Congratulations

Well done to 3 Sturt boys who have been selected in the South Australian side this year. David Nicholas, Ben Papps and Jackson Brebner Russ will be travelling to Melbourne at the end of the season to play against sides from around the world. Well done!

Upcoming Events – Make sure you are there! Presentation Day – Sunday 3rd April from 2pm at the Sturt Baseball Club. We will be using the marquee on the ground as the venue. Promises to be another great day!

Division 1
Another season comes to a close for the 'Seniors' and all in all we continue to make progress as an inexperienced, young baseball team. Considering we lost our top 3 players in last years Best and Fairest we still managed to surpass last seasons results (with a 10 win, 2 draws season), which is a tremendous result for this young group. If we can retain the bulk of this group and add a seasoned player or two, we have the platform to go forward. On Sunday we played Golden Grove in a doubleheader and they are an equally young outfit on the improve (as evidenced by their victory against West Torrens a couple of weeks ago). We seemed to have the first game under control, leading 4-1 to the top of the sixth, before they scored 4 to lead us by 1, which we were unable to peg back. Darren French threw his heart out in one of his best efforts and it was unfortunate we could not post a win for him. However we buttered up in game 2 and won a thriller 9-7. We were down 4-0 early and had to pull out all stops in a fine team effort. Tim Brewer and Paul Holmes really shone with the bat and Telmo, Milly and Tom Winter combined to post the win. Good Luck to all teams participating in finals, it would be nice to bring home the bacon in a few grades but, as Junior club of the year for the second year running, we continue to be moving in the right direction. Go the SAINTS.

Division 4
Division 4 lost to Southern Districts 11-4 for a place in the Grand Final. One bad inning cost the Saints but no doubt the boys will be back this week against Woodville to secure a Grand Final berth. Well done to Trevor Hendry and Ben Cadrall for their efforts on the mound.

Under 18
In a very high quality and tight game, Glenelg won 6-5. Shane Horne pitched 5 strong innings with the field backing him up well. All our batters did a tremendous job either collecting hits or taking the pitcher deep into the count. A couple of mental errors hurt us.

Next week we play GGCD at home at 3.30

Under 14 Division 1
The boys travelled out to East Torrens to try to avenge the week before loss to them. Toby C. started on the mound and did a good job. The boys started off well with good batting and held ET for a few innings. Then ET came back and it was tied going into the 6th innings. Sturt went up by 1. But in the 7th inning ET came up and scored 4 runs and won the game 16-12.

Of particular mention is Cody J. who came on to pitch with bases loaded and no outs {his first time pitching this season} and he covered home on a wild pitch and tagged the runner out, stuck one batter out, and made the throw to 1st for 3 outs and 1 run did score during that inning but not a bad effort under those conditions. The boys did a good job in defeat.

This week is do or die for them as they play Woodville to get into the grand final.

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt
Under 14 Division 2 Sturt verus Saints A comprehensive victory over the second placed Sturt team on Sunday has guaranteed the Saints boys a Grand Final berth. Tom Teague excelled as our starting pitcher. He threw 2 innings with 5 strikeouts and no hits which gave us the start that we were looking for. Go Sturt! We will see you again in the Grand Final.

Under 14 Division 2 Saints
See above

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt defeated Kensington 17 – 5 in last week’s semi final. The boys led from the start with Ben Young and Pappsy holding the Cardinals to a few scattered hits.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
What a fighting way to finish our season by going down to Southern Districts 12-10 .After being down early 11-1 the young guns had an amazing comeback. I was so proud of this teams success this year .They are a credit to themselves .They worked hard at training ,listened and leant a great deal. With 8 players playing again next year things are looking great for the future. Thankyou to the wonderful group of supportive parents we had. Sturt is an amazing club for having great parents. Thanks to Chris Small for assisting me with the team and to Beck Catt for doing the bulk of our scoring. Our club has a bright future with the quality and quantity of these fantastic kids coming through. I thoroughly enjoyed the year.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
Our first final was not a memorable one. Considering we remained unbeaten since Xmas the boys were pretty confident of another win. Kensington on the other had other plans and went on to win 18-11.

Some silly errors under pressure cost us dearly. However, on the positive our batting still looks strong with good performances from Tom Renfrey, Matthew Franke, Jack Colmer and Alex Martens with the bat kept us in the game. Sam Furler continues to show good form as does Lachie Burns and Kane Mattson. Richard Edwards played shortstop as good as you'll see from an under 12 player and has all the poise and glove skills of a player in much higher ranks.

A solid work-out on the track this week should see a much improved defence which will hold as in good stead against Woodville in a do or die berth to the Grand Final.

Division 1
Last weekend the 'Saints' took on Woodville in a doubleheader and shared the spoils. Although Woodville are below us on the premiership table they have been steadily improving and I sensed we were in for a tough day. Enough has been said of our injury problems however in reality we are no better than a 12 man squad at the moment and extremely vulnerable. I can only take my hat off to this group as they plough on representing their club with discipline and determination. But when a game is in the balance and your alternatives are limited as a team, you can only let the game continue and take what result comes your way. In game 1 we came back from 7-1 down in the fourth to score 7 in the fifth, taking the lead and seeing it expertly closed by Paul Mildren. All players contributed to this run spree (Ben Catalano’s 2 run bomb the highlight) and again it reinforced the capability of this young team to hang in there and record a win when it seemed most unlikely .It was an emotional victory and it took its toll in game 2 where we lost 9-1,on an oppressive day weather wise we had not much left in the tank. Poor old Telmo battled manfully against his old club, picking up 11 k's but a combination of bloopers, flares and errors did not help his cause. His performance is better than it looks on paper and he continues to butter up shouldering the majority of pitching for our team. This weekend spells the end of another season as we take on Golden Grove in a doubleheader at home. It would be great to see lots of faces attend as it is our "Past Players Day". We are really going through a rebuilding phase at the moment and although losing our top 3 in last years Best and Fairest this season, if we can obtain a victory this weekend we will better last years record. Considering the amount being asked of this young squad, it is an outstanding achievement and gives this club something to build on in the years to come.

Division 2

Division 3
The Saints faced an tough last round opponent in top of the table West Torrens. In a clear demonstration of how much this side has improved over the course of the year we only lost 7-3 in a hard fought game. Well done to all players who participated during the season and we look forward to seeing you all out again next season! Thanks also to Mr Mcgree for umpiring at late notice.

Division 4
The Division 4 side cantered into the finals with a drubbing of Golden Grove. The side has come into the finals with some good form and will look forward to facing Southern Districts this Saturday. Make sure you are down there to support them!

Under 18
A comprehensive 12-2 win over Woodville to prepare well for the first final this week. Gibbo and Jarrad Thornquest pitched well and everyone contributed with the bat. Bring on the finals!

Under 16 Division 1
The Under 16s played well but lost to a better team, namely Woodville, 14-4. Andrew Hall and Angus Roeger pitched well without luck and the fielding was pretty tight. Just a couple of decision making errors hurt but these can be fixed with time. Thanks for a great season guys. This team has improved dramatically over the 6 months we have been together and I hope you continue to pursue your baseball next season.

Under 14 Division 1
The under 14s faced East Torrens in a top of the table clash. Defensively the side let themselves down but the batting was very good. East Torrens won the game in the last innings 11-10 and the boys will be keen to turn the tables on them this week in the first final.

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt V Saints
A good day the bat and great fielding saw the Saints finish on top 14-5. Frazer Goodes excelled at third base making three perfect plays to first base. The highlight for the day was the combined team picnic at Ridge Park. Thank you to all concerned, it was an excellent turn out.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt ended the minor round beating East Torrens 12-3. Ben Young pitched a sound game and our hitters were steady (Middell 3, Hollis 2, Jacko 2, Nicholas hr) We finished the season in third place (15 -3) and play Kensington next week in a knockout semi final.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
A disappointing last round loss to Kensington after leading for most of the match. The boys are now looking forward to the finals and will enjoy the challenge.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
Needing to win to cement a top 2 finish, the boys finished the season in style with a good win 14-4 over Northern Districts.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
Saints v Playford City and we desperately needed a win. We got there comfortably with a performance that is worthy of a finals berth. The final score 16 to 7. One of the pleasing aspects of this team's game is their work on the little things that save bases and runs. Their backing up, their movement in anticipation of a play is what wins games. Highlights, Sam Roberts pitching another steady start with 4 strikeouts and a play to first. Adam Hofmeyer relieved to pitch his best for the season, no hits, 4 strikeouts, no walks. Harrison Wood was ever reliable, catching the first 3 digs, not letting much past. Mitchell Kosiol had a day out, taking a good catch at right, then catching to Adam. He made a great throw to first to get the second out top of the 4th. Jack Colyer was the pivot to a double play to finish the second dig. Matt May and Josh Masters played first base and let nothing past them. Hits to Sam Osmond. Billy Burford, Sam Roberts, Harrison, Jack, 2 each to Matt, Tyler Blanks and Spiros Rozaklis. 3 hits to Mitchell, and stand up doubles to Adam and Harrison. We scored 8 runs batted in, 1 each to Mitchell, Adam, Matt and Tyler, 2 each to Sam Roberts and Jack. A great way to finish the minor round. By the time you get to read this we will know if we have snuck into the final 4, but in the meantime the nails are being bitten to the bone.

Division 3
Division 3 Division 3 defeated Port Adelaide 19-7 with everyone putting in a solid contribution. Darren French threw very well and the score would have been a lot better except for two lucky shots by a Port player that sailed into the park!

Division 4
Sturt defeated West Torrens in convincing fashion 12-2 to charge into second spot for a good crack at the finals. Good luck boys.

Under 14 Division 1
The boys went to West Torrens on Sunday and Pat Burns started on the mound and Hugh Wirth caught. The boys got an early lead on West Torrens but they where not going to roll over {which the Sturt boys thought would happen} West Torrens went ahead in the last 2 digs due to some basic fielding that turned into errors. West Torrens won the game 10-8 with 5 of those runs UNEARNED!!! Toby C. made a fantatic catch at left field.
This should drop the Saints out of FIRST PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON. The boys play East Torrens on Sunday AT THE CLUB FOR A 10:00 GAME. THEN INTO THE FINALS.
MICK AND JAYE WANT TO THANK THE PARENTS FOR GETTING ALL THE BOYS TO WEST TORRENS BY 8:30 ON SUNDAY WE KNOW IT WAS EARLY AND THANKS AGAIN

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt
A disappointing result for us this week. We played West Torrens (bottom Team) and drew 15 all. Putting at risk a place in the finals. In the last innings only needed one run to win. The boys made a mess of fly ball with two outs and no runs.

TUESDAY 15/2/05
The boys redeemed themselves playing a grudge match against GGCD. At 7-1 down after second innings it looked grim. Some great pitching by Max Caon and solid performance from Simon, Hayden, Zac, Jayke. A deserved win 13 - 7. Great game!!

Under 14 Division 2 Saints
A strong start and a consistent effort with the bat helped the Saints boys to a 19-5 victory over East Torrens. The most pleasing part of this game was our defence which is usually a little unstable but this game saw no errors in the field. Kyle Larson took an important catch at right field for the third out of the first innings while Matthew Dominish had a huge day at the office putting out four batters from second base, three of which were consecutive to finish the fourth and final innings 3 up-3 down. Two great put-outs from third to first by Frazer Goodes and Tom Teague were very impressive. The Thorpe boys pitched well and both smashed home runs over the six foot fence. They are probably still arguing over which one was the longest. Well done boys – two to go!

TUESDAY – 15/2/05
A lack luster performance at Kensington mid week saw the saints defeated 6-10. With only three of our squad of eleven picking up a hit all game and too many tragic, basic errors we did not deserve to win this game against a team sitting in sixth position from eight. Well done to Tom Teague and Alistair Young who pitched their hearts out and were not justly rewarded by the field. Zac Harnett wore a hard hit ball to the ankle during the bottom of the fourth and went to the bench presumed retired. Having made our bench changes earlier, we were one player down and had an automatic out in our batting order. Batting for runs at the top of the fifth saw Zac, still in pain, reappear in the batters box and hit in two much needed runs. This must be one of the most courageous contributions to a team that I have seen.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt went down 9-5 to the undefeated West Torrens in a high pressure game at Lockleys. We out hit the strong Eagles batters 10-8 (Nicholas 3 Daws 2) but could not capitalise on some critical opportunities to score. Our last minor round game is against East Torrens at Flinders on Sunday before what should be a fascinating finals series.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
The Saints defeated Goodwood 22-4 in a comprehensive thrashing. All played well!

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
Sturt defeated Glenelg 22—3. Bring on the finals!

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
Third on the ladder v number one, and things could go terribly wrong for us this weekend. Sturt had beaten Kensington last weekend, and we were looking for a win. We needed to win to keep our hopes alive for the finals. 3 all at the bottom of the second, things aren't looking too bad. But with 10 walks given away in the third and fourth we handed Kensington the game. 17 to 5 was the final score. Highlights, hits to Josh Masters, Sam Roberts, Harrison Wood with two, Sam Osmond and Spiros Rosaklis. Spiros getting Billy Burford home for our only RBI for the game. Sam Roberts controlled the mound for the first half of the game striking out 4 batters. Billy Burford had a slip of concentration in the third innings, but redeemed himself with 3 outstanding plays form third base in the last dig. Harrison caught half the game and nothing looked like getting past him. Josh played first base and made some great outs, but also stopped a number of throws that could easily have turned into passed balls. We now look to give Playford City flogging on Sunday and hope for miracles to get into the 4

Junior Training with our International Stars

We are delighted that some of our international players will all be in Adelaide at the same time in a couple of weeks and have agreed to run some training sessions for our junior players. Paul Mildren/Tom Brice/Tom Becker plus A grade players to assist with both sessions. Wednesday 23rd February 2005 - All under 12s to train at the Sturt Baseball Club commencing at 4.30-6.00 pm.

Tuesday 22nd February 2005 - All Under 14s & Under 16s to train at the Sturt Baseball Club, commencing at 4.30-6.00 pm.

Paul/Tom and Tom to talk afterwards about there baseball careers and how they got to where they are and where they go from here. The BBQ will be fired up so parents are welcome to come along and have tea at the club.

Division 1
On Sunday The 'Saints' were stretched to the limit personnel wise and the result depicted the situation. With the inactivity of Brice, Becker, Mildren and the injury to Brian McGuiness plus the mid season withdrawals of Craig Passmore and Daniel Bonham as well as losing Yuki Sato(holiday back to Japan) our fragile squad is totally undermanned. We have been juggling a number of u/18's through the B grade, all of whom have grown and showed they have what it takes, but sport is more complex than just a game day result. Training when you don’t feel like it, travelling to Northern Districts when your club needs you, supporting each other on and off the field when the chips are down are all aspects of being a sportsperson that are high on my priority list. The core 10-12 players who are desperately trying to move this club forward are tiring under the weight of a heavy schedule and perhaps with a few, punching out of their weight division at the moment. With the completion of the B grade season, it is imperative we consolidate and finish the year strongly. Sunday’s game against Kensington saw us lose 12-1 and although the score line is not a totally true indicator, we went backwards in a few areas so important to us -- TEAM SPIRIT, TEAM UNITY and RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER. We have a midweek game against top of the table Goodwood (away) to regain our way.

Division 2
Division 2 put up a very good effort against Kensington and held them most of the way in a close game until the last innings. The Saints lost 11-1. Andrew Grego pitched well after making a shaky start and Darren French was solid with the bat.

Division 3
Division 3 defeated Kensington 11-7 with Andrew ‘Tubby’ Mattner stealing the show. He smashed two home runs and picked up 6 RBIs. Darren French threw well and everyone contributed to a good team victory.

Division 4
East Torrens arrived to play the Saints after spending lunch at the Ed Hotel…..and it took all the Div 4 mastery to defeat the RedSox 9-8! This sets the team up well for a good run into the finals.

Division 6
Division 6 went down swinging to Goodwood on the weekend 13—9.

Under 18
The Under 18s bounced back well this week with a comprehensive 13-2 demolition of Adelaide Angels. Gibbo again showed his tremendous improvement this season by pitching a complete game…. well done.

Under 16 Division 1
The boys played well for 90% of the game but for one innings went to sleep and lost to Kensington 7-3. Angus Roeger continues to dominate with both bat and ball and Sam Bates showed his continual improvement by collecting a couple of hits.

Under 14 Division 1
The Under 14s continued to hold on to top spot with a 23-8 victory over Southern Districts. Well played to all.

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt
Played Glenelg at Anderson Reserve. We had to beat Glenelg to maintain our 3rd position on the ladder and after a great game in near perfect weather the boys did it. 17 - 13. (Not without putting Bones under a great deal of stress…..) Congrats to Max Caon on his home run. Well played Bradley, Max, Simon, and also Hayden for getting home 3 times.

Under 14 Division 2 Saints
A fantastic team effort this week saw our team defeat the second placed Dodgers 26-9 in what must be our best performance for the season. Getting the jump early on this team, 14-3 at the bottom of the second, certainly set the pace for the rest of the game. Every player contributed with the bat and our fielding errors were at a minimum. Alistair Young hit 5 for 5 and, as always, was strong behind the plate. Welcome back Alistair – we missed you! Trent Small played his best game this far, batting 500 with 3 RBI’s. Kyle Larson made an excellent debut on the mound, giving up only 2 runs and striking out 2 batters. Well done to all. Let’s keep the momentum!

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt triumphed over Southern Districts 12-2 in a comprehensive display of disciplined baseball on Sunday. Pappsy and Jacko held the Hawks to 1 hit while Tom McGarry and David Nicholas picked up 2 hits each. Opposition hopes were dashed in the third as the gangly powerhouse Will Brennan belted a Grandslam over the ceterfield fence for his second home run in 3 weeks. We need to keep the momentum going against the undefeated West Torrens this Sunday at Lockleys for a heads up run into the finals.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
The young Saints side capped off a great week by defeating Golden Grove 19-10 and cementing a place in the finals. A great achievement for this side!!!

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
A win over the top side. An excellent result!
Coming up against the top side is always a daunting task but the boys took it in their stride and remained composed enough to bring home the points. Alex Martens was brilliant on the mound to hold Kensington down to 2 runs for his allocated 60 pitches.
Our good batting form continued with solid hitting from Tom Renfrey, Jack Colmer, Alex Martens, Jack Goldsworthy, Mike O'Connor and Matthew Franke.
Without a doubt the play of the day goes to Kane Mattson playing at third base. Last innings 2 out with Kensington runners on second and third, Sturt two runs up. An outfield hit would have tied the game, the batter in the box last at bat was a home run over left field. Batter fires off a hard hit line drive down third base and it looked a certain double but by reflex action Kane threw the glove out and it stuck - game over! The boys went berserk as did the coaches and parents. A great finish to end the game.
We remain unbeaten since the X-Mas break and the finals are now a real possibility.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
Saints v East Torrens should have resulted in a win to the Saints, particularly on recent form. East Torrens have made a great improvement through the season, putting much better opposition to the test. Sunday for us was another of those occasions. We lost 14 to 15 in a nail bighter that we should have won. Our boys can still hold their heads high, not one of our boys gave up at any stage. We batted well but were unfortunate on a couple of crucial plays, East Torrens pulled off a few great outs, and there would have been more safe hits if it weren't for those great plays. Daniel Congedi continued his good batting with 3 hits as lead off. Single safe hits to Tyler Blanks, Harrison Wood, Jack Colyer, Billy Burford, and Spiros Rozaklis. Doubles to Sam Roberts and Sam Osmond. Runs batted in to both Sam's and to Billy .Unfortunate to leave runners on base. Sam Roberts is in fine form pitching, and Harrison is also in good form behind the plate. Our Pitchers only conceded 3 hits for the game, but we had trouble keeping the ball in the strike zone giving away 13 walks. The boys have great support for each other, and they still have a shot at finals. Hard work is what will get them there.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Stan and Trish Warrilow on the arrival of a baby boy, Spencer on the weekend. Well done and we can’t wait to see Spencer in a Saints uniform!
Congratulations to Paul Mildren on being selected in the Australian side. This is a magnificent achievement and caps off a great Claxton Shield tournament for Paul. The road to the Beijing Olympics begins!

Division 1
The Saints played Adelaide in a doubleheader at Adelaide with some very positive results for the young squad. In game 1 we jumped out of the blocks scoring 2 in the 1st before surrendering the lead mid game and self destructing in the 6th to go 4 down. To the players credit they were not to be denied and rallied to score 4 in the last to tie the game and then got their three outs to salvage a draw. This game was a great learning curve for the group who seemingly against all odds banded together to get a result. This was an across the board team effort and will go a long way in the 'hurried development' of this group of players. They deserve much applause. Our next challenge was to butter up in game 2 and be competitive against a team who desperately needed the points to stay in the finals race. Again we got off to a flyer with Chris Hyatt hitting a long 2 run bomb in the 1st.Darren French took to the mound and took awhile to get going and gave up 4 in the 1st.Our pitching was pretty thin in this game and I always intended to share the load between a few guys. Frenchy ended up throwing three, Tom Winter threw 2,Dutchie threw a couple before Daniel turner threw the last. The Adelaide hitters were hard to stop but when they made a pitching change in the 6th we came alive again to score 3 to stay alive. This resulted in them bringing out Taj Merrill, their best pitcher to close things down. This game had many highlights for us but none better than Chris Hyatt's 3 from 5 including 2 home runs and one bouncing in the warning track at centre right, a terrific display of power hitting. Considering we had a history of falling over in the second game of a doubleheader, I was very proud of the way the team battled and hung together. This week we have a single game against Kensington at home and would love to see a big crowd. It makes such a difference when the club is alive with people so please try to make your way to Norman Reserve Sunday afternoon and support the "young Saints".

Division 2
Division 2 played in yet another heart breaking defeat against Adelaide – losing 5-4. Both Tim Boundy and Adam Kerr showed their enormous potential to pick up two hits each and Andrew Grego pitched will for the Saints.

Division 3
The boys played at home against Goodwood and lost 8-3 in a closely fought match. Once again a couple of costly errors were the difference but this team continues to improve.

Division 4
Division 4 Division 4 played Southern Districts which may have been a preview of the Grand Final. The Saints jumped out to an early lead thanks to home runs from Don Wulff, Ben Caddrall and Mark Colmer. Unfortunately, the momentum couldn’t be sustained and the Saints lost 11-10.

Division 6
Lost to Glenelg 11-2

Under 18
The Under 18s travelled to Glenelg and after a promising start couldn’t continue on and lost 14-4. A few too many mistakes proved to be the difference and I am sure the boys will bounce back to the winning form next week.

Under 16 Division 1
What a great game. A closely fought battle but the Saints lost 3-2 against Adelaide. Andrew Hall and Angus Roeger pitched brilliantly but unfortunately our bats neve really got going. Keep hanging in there guys – the improvement is clearly there.

Under 14 Division 1
The Under 14s continued on there merry way with a 20 run demolition of Northern Districts. Special mention to Hugh Wirth who smashed 2 home runs!

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt
Played Kensington at Kensington and had a pretty easy win 16-8. Congrats to Hayden Pocock on his home run. The boys are really starting to play well and listening to their coach and things are looking good for the finals. We had a huge gallery of parents and friends watching this week. Thanks for your support.

Under 14 Division 2 Saints
Traveling to West Torrens this week we scored an 8-5 win against the bottom side. The boys must have used up all of their hits last week as our batting was poor against some pretty slow pitching. It was the first time this season that we played on a ground without a mound, and I know that both pitchers noticed a difference. Our next game is at Flinders against The Dodgers. This should be a hard fought battle as it is one plays two with a fairly tight top end at this time in the season.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt extinguished a 6 run first inning by Norths to power to a 17-6 win at Flinders. Highlights of the game were three hits to Jacko and Pappsy and David striking out 5 of the last 6 batters.
We play Goodwood 6pm Tuesday and Southern Districts on Sunday – both at Flinders. Sturt served up a 25-2 pasting to Goodwood at Flinders on Tuesday. Scott Miller pitched admirably as our batters picked up 22 hits (Brennan 4/4, McGarry 4/4, Middel 2/2, Miller 3/4 , Nicholas 3/4 ….)
A bigger challenge awaits with Southern Districts at Flinders on Sunday then West Torrens – The boys will be tested.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
Two great wins have got our little team back into 5th spot.We had a solid win over Glenelg 23-14 and beat East Torrens 9-5 on Tuesday night. It is great to see the boys get some confidence back with the bat as there has been some fantastic hitting over the passed few weeks .Jarrad Labasso has made a fantastic return after injury and had a real influence in the batting box.Its great to see our pitchers dig deep and concentrate on throwing strikes .With three games to go we are gearing up to give these other team a real shake in the finals.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
Another solid win over the East Torrens with strong batting by all of the team. Hard work at batting practice is paying dividends now at the business end of the season. Jackson Holst and Jack Goldsworthy starred with the bat whilst Alex Martens and Kane Mattson took control on the mound.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
Getting to the pointy end of the season and we are encountering the top end teams contending for places in the finals. We took on Woodville on Sunday who have a good record, and we won well. 16 - 7 the final score, one of the most satisfying wins that we have had. The Saints were hungry for a win after going down last week, and played well. Sam Roberts had a day out on the mound and with the bat. 5 strike outs and only conceded 1 hit put us in an excellent position. He also got 3 safe hits, picking up 2 RBI's bringing in Daniel Congedi in the first and Adam Hofmeyer in the second. All the boys are having a good crack with the bat. Hits also to Josh Masters picking up 2 RBI's, Harrison Wood both times. Sam Osmond picked up a single in the second. Mitchell Kosiol came into the game and hit safe to centrefield and brought Josh home to pick up an RBI. Tyler Blanks also came into the game and hit safe. Jack Colyer took a pitch for the team, then was batted home by Matt May. Harrison caught the game like a seasoned player for another outstanding effort. Sam Osmond took the mound in the third, only giving up 1 hit, and Matt May closed, putting strikes in the spot to enable the batter to put the ball down Sam Roberts throat at right field to take an easy catch to end the game. Now we face a determined Cardinals on Wednesday. To be continued.......
Wednesday night twilight match against Cardinals finished in a fantastic 20 to 14 win. I have made much of their team attitude in past reports, and this game was no exception. Our boys are playing well both in the field and with the bat. Adam Hofmeyer pitched the first and into the second to get to his 60 pitches with no hits against him and struck out 2 batters. Harrison Wood relieved also getting 2 strikeouts and putting the ball in the strike zone to let the field make the outs. Mitchell Kosiol caught the first half of the game, then being relieved by Sam Osmond. Sam Roberts fielded at right field and made some couragous efforts to save passed balls. Josh Masters played well at first base. Billy Burford at short and Matt May at second worked well together to make an out at second. The level of backing up on all the plays is outstanding. There were many plays that I have not mentioned that were very encouraging. With the bat we had a great time. Daniel Congedi gained 3 hits with an RBI. Tyler Blanks got home on Josh Masters hit, one of 3.Matt May hit safe to right to push Daniel home. Sam Roberts made 3 safe hits getting Sam Osmond and Mitchell home on one hit to right field. Josh hit safly 3 times to left pucking up 1 RBI. Harrison hitting safe twice, Spiros Rozaklis hit a single and a great double to get Josh home in the second. Billy pushed a single past shortstop. Mitchell hit twice, Adam cracked one through second, getting Spiros home and Sam Osmond hit 2 singles in one of his best batting games. Bring on East Torrens.
Sorry about war and peace.

Division 1
Tuesday nights game was at the picturesque Nthn.Districts who were hunting for their first A grade victory in a good couple of years. As much as we know we are a better side than Norths, you still have to get the job done. We did, winning 7-4 in a pretty slow, dull affair with all due respect to our players. Tom Winter took the pitching duties and did a great job to put us in the winning position. His day in the sun took its toll and he was replaced after 5 by Dutchie who cleverly closed the game throwing 11 pitches in his one inning to record the save. Our hitting was a combination of walks, hit by pitched balls a couple of nice hits to Stuart Crutchley, Jimmy Passmore and Daniel Turner with Ben Catalano in his return game hitting a solo bomb. It is so hard to judge these games, so to gain the points and come out injury free is what we set out to do. We take on Adelaide in a doubleheader on Sunday in what should be a good test for us. They are missing no players with the State team, we will not have the services of Milly and Beck who would certainly help our cause. As a side note, the State coaching staff are tremendously impressed with Paul Mildren’s form and Becks willingness to take on the hard jobs, he has made three appearances (albeit one innings stints) and will butter up again tonight in the semi final if needed. Well done to both boys, representing themselves and The Saints with great aplomb.

Division 2
Division 2 faced top of the table Hanley & Grange and performed well but lost 7-3.

Division 3
Div 3 played the Tigers at Glenelg and put together one of their best games for the year, winning 10-4. An outstanding performance from Shane Horne on the mound was the catalyst for victory.

Division 4
Div 3 played the Tigers at Glenelg and put together one of their best games for the year, winning 10-4. An outstanding performance from Shane Horne on the mound was the catalyst for victory. Division 4 The Division 4 side faced an tough Goodwood line up but came out firing and demolished

Division 6
Well the boys came out to play Adelaide on Saturday and were only just beaten by them. Thanks to Trev Hendry who pitched the whole game. We fell behind in the first dig and pretty much held Adelaide after that as we kept on trying to put those runs on the board. With Simon doing a great job out in center and with the bat we got to our last dig and we were down by 10 runs. We had to do some thing and the all of the boys dug real deep and we pushed Adelaide to breaking point and started a rally to end all rallies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We scored 9 runs and almost pulled off a win. We only lost by 1 run. What a game and thanks to all who where there.

Masters
Well, it has taken a while but finally we have a win on the board. Interestingly when we played the Senators at Woodville earlier in the season, they just beat us 7-6, in the return encounter it was Sturt Bulls 7, Senators 6!

Some our regular players were missing in Bob Booker, Bill Magoulianos and Phil Hart, but the other regulars and some new blood managed to get the job done. Jamie Bishop pitched very well, with Peter Tredrea pitching a shut out in relief, after catching earlier in the game. Pete’s bat was extremely active with a double, a triple and a single in the books. The rest of the team also hit well for the most part. Gary Woods, Martin Foster, Bruce Lucas, Jaye Johnston, Mark Burns, Kevin Brooke, Bruce Packer and Ritchie Carter all contributed to the success.

Thanks to ball boy Tom Winter, who also assisted with scoring. Come out and see us in action next Monday night at Norman Reserve.

Under 18
The under 18 juggernaut continued its winning streak – defeating Kensington 8-2. Gibbo pitched another great game and Shane Horne finished the game off in style. Well done boys!

Under 16 Division 1
The Under 16s played confident, aggressive baseball to defeat Henley & Grange 22-5. Sam Bates pitched the whole game and was magnificent. Everyone chipped in with the bat with a welcome return to form for Tom Kenny and Paul Grant.

Under 14 Division 1
The boys came to play Adelaide at Flinders ground on Sunday. Pat Burns was on the mound and Seb Tape catching. It was a close game through out and with a few great center field catches by Hugh Wirth it stayed close. After Adelaides last dig the score was tied, Adelaide put in a new pitcher to finish out but walked Seb and a few wild pitches later Seb made it to 3rd and scored the winning run. A BIG THANK YOU TO BRADLEY BALDWIN AND HIS PARENTS FOR LETTING BRAD PLAY WITH U/14 1S THIS WEEK. THANKS

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt
This week we played GGCD at Flinders Uni. We won the game 15 - 14. The Boys were we lucky to win this one, We were down 13 - 6 with an innings to play… Well done guys! Best players this week Jayke Wayne with a solid performance at short stop. Josh Grantham for best shirt front at first base (not that we encourage this). And catchers Hayden Pocock and Bradley Baldwin.

Under 14 Division 2 Saints
Our bats were certainly busy against Golden Grove this week and finally we achieved the maximum 7 runs in the first innings. A magnificent grand slam from William Thorpe finished our offensive side of the second innings with what could have been another 10 runs to our tally had it not been for the mercy rule. At the bottom of the third the score board read 16 – 9 and time was on our side. One more run would seal this game for us. Starting at the top of our order saw Tom Teague come to the box and promptly put me at ease by launching the ball over the centre field cone – game set and match. The final score was 18 – 9. Our team batting average for this game was 577 with both William and Tom batting 1000. This was our best batting performance so far. Well done boys. Congratulations to Glen McDonald and his U14 Div 2 Sturt boys for their win against the top team – it must have been an exciting game.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt nudged Adelaide out of second place on Sunday with a thrilling 12-11 win at Flinders. Adelaide went to a 4 run lead at the top of the last inning and with the game on the line Sturt scored 3 runs before William Brennan (our number 9 batter) smashed a ball over the centre field fence to win the game. Well done Will!
Three hits to Tom McGarry and Jacko (including a rocket-like double to left field) kept usin the game. Norths Sunday at 12 then Indians Tuesday at 6 – Go Sturt !

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
No Report

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
Another solid winning performance defeating Henley & Grange 17-3.
Kane Mattson continued his good form on the mound holding down the Rams in the early part of the game and well supported by Alex Martens. Tom Renfrey caught a brilliant game and reduced scoring opportunities for the opposition with excellent glove work. Our batting looked solid with some good hitting by Tom Renfrey and Mike O'Connor.
This week we come up against the bottom side and am hopeful of continuing our good form and a spot in the finals is now a fair chance.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
The Saints went down in a cobweb blower against Northern Districts. The Final score was 20 to 6. Highlights...Josh Masters stood in as catcher for the first time and did a stand out job, seeing out the whole game. Daniel Congedi made home in the first off his own bat by pushing N.D. to chase him around with the ball (coach having a coronary).Jack Colyer hit a double to bring Billy Burford and Adam Hofmeyer home in the second. Matt May getting an RBI in the third to bring Sam Osmond home. Daniel Congedi made a terrific throw from Cenrefield to Spiros at third to stop a runner advancing. Unfortunately our efforts in the field were not up to our best and the boys tired quickly. I think that Billy Burford is looking to get a gong for the batter hit most times by a pitched ball in a season. He just rubs, and takes it for the team.

Claxton Shield The Sturt Baseball Club would like to wish Tom Brice, Tom Becker and Paul Mildren all the best as they represent South Australia at the upcoming Claxton Shield series in Sydney next week.

Division 1
The A Grade played West Torrens in a doubleheader on the weekend and acquitted themselves pretty well.In Game 1 we had Paul Mildren throw 5 innings for a run and Tom Becker make his debut this season closing the game out throwing the last couple. Both did a good job against a pretty handy offensive line up with the Saints losing 3-0. We wish Tom and Paul all the best in the upcoming State Series and look forward to them resuming with us and help our thin stocks of pitching. There were about 5 scattered hits in this game, the fielding was OK, and we were always in with a winning chance. Game 2 saw Telmo take on the might of West Torrens and he did a great job throwing the entire game for a 3-0 loss.We really created some chances in this game but were unable to land the killer blow. Tim Brewer bounced back with three solid hits with a few other hits being spread around. The fielding was great in this game, Daniel Turner making a couple of terrific plays with all players very solid. Although not scoring for the day will not win you any games there were many positives that came out of this game. We have a rest this weekend (while the State team is away) and resume on Tuesday night against Northern Districts in a twilight game.

Division 2
With many players still on holidays, we gave young Jarrad Thornquest a start on the mound and he was magnificent. Although the team lost 5-1 to West Torrens this was a very good game of baseball and there were many positives to come from it.

Division 3
The boys travelled to Adelaide to take on the Angels and come away with a 20-4 loss. This was probably not a true reflection of the entire effort by the Sturt boys. Peter Turner has improved considerably behind the plate and his two hits showed his batting is becoming more consistent. Thanks also to Matt Whitford and Will Taylor who played.

Division 4
The Div 4 machine rolled to another 16-1 victory over the Goodwood Indians. Kris Mcardle and Scott Crutchley pitched very well to shut the Indian bats down and allow the side to gain some much needed percentage on there quest for the finals.

Division 6
Well the boys came to play and start our 4 game home stand. We were up against Flinders and through some great pitching by Jeff Nichols and great 3rd base from Bruce Lucas, Bobby Booker on first, Mark Burns 2nd, Mike Anderson at short and Ritchie Carter catching we had a real tight infield and it was great to watch from the out field. We shut them down every inning and we had a steady number of runs with a great hit from Simon Brettig, who played center, Josh Connor was at right field and Jaye at left, and not many balls came out in that part of the field!!!! We showed some strong batting and finished up the day with our best ever 13-0 win. SO WE NOW PLAY SATURDAY AT 1PM AGAINST ADELAIDE SO IF YOU HAVE SOME FREE TIME COME ON OUT AND SEE THE BOYS FROM DIV 6 TRY TO MAKE IT 2 IN A ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Under 18
Sturt 11 defeated GGCD 4
After conceding 3 runs in the first innings we settled down to hold them for the rest of the game. Jake Gibson pitched a terrific game and was backed up in the field with good plays by Darren Stewart and Adam Kerr. All played well. Andrew McKinnon filled in from the U16’s and almost took a spectacular catch at right field, parallel to the ground only dropping when he hit the ground and his first at bat hit up the middle for a safe hit. Well done!!

Under 16 Division 1
We played like a team that has just been on holidays for a month! A slow start cost us dearly and we lost to West Torrens 10-7. Great effort by Sam Bates again on the mound. Special mention to Cody Johnston, Toby Cantrill and Max Remfrey who filled in for our State representatives who were away. Thanks guys. Max was particularly impressive and I look forward to seeing him come through the ranks over the next few years!

Under 14 Division 1
After the break the boys traveled to Glenelg. With only 6 players from u/14 1 we were able to only get 2 players from the other u/14s and many thanks goes out to those 2 players - Tom Teague and Kyle Larson and the boys parents THANK YOU!! The game started with Glenelg not having any match balls and wanting to play with practice balls, not good. It was going to be a hard game to play with only 8. It was a close game Toby Cantrill started on the mound and put in a great effort!! The Sturt boys did well at the start of the game but through a few errors in the field and a few long balls out to the out field it was a hard for them to keep up the pace. The boys went down for the 2nd time this season and really are doing a great job of playing and most of all they are still all having fun.

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt
Well what a game this was… we played East Torrens and were unlucky to lose 14 -11, the boys played well considering we were short 3 players. This team is making great improvements every week. Hayden had two great hits to centre field which were caught. (Bugga!!) and on the other side Jarrad Pearce made two great catches in centre field on consecutive balls. Jayke Wayne played a great game and Max Caon pitched well again for us. Alex Furler is another who we are seeing great improvement from. Thanks to all our parents who happily pitch in and help. Thanks also to Alex Martens and Tyler Blanks for filling is for us.

Under 14 Division 2 Saints
Our fourth perfect game for the season was a great way to start 2005. We played Glenelg who were only one point behind us. The Thorpe boys were both on fire on the mound, neither of them conceding a single safe hit. William struck out eleven batters in seventeen, followed by Cameron’s awesome display, winning the game for us by pitching three consecutive strike outs. The Saints hit the ball well and were often a little unlucky not to get on base. I must say that the oppositions defence was impressive. Trent Small played his best game yet behind the mask. He is growing in confidence and strength, and to see him throw a runner out at third made my day. The ensuing trap play was the icing on the cake. Well done Frazer Goodes for initiating a great play. The final score was 7-4.

Thank you Jenny Small for steering the ship and a big thank you to two great boys David Nicholas and Jackson Brebner-Russ for filling our hole. You both did yourselves and us proud.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt
Sturt played a solid game to defeat Glenelg 15-6 at Flinders. Jackson pitched well to hold the tigers to a couple of runs and we batted steadily against some erratic pitching. A tougher test this Sunday as we play second placed Adelaide at Flinders at 10am.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints
Lost to Adelaide 10-1.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
With the long haul out to Playford City and an RBT and 6 speed cameras to encounter, the parents at the ground an hour and a half before the game and 2 boys hurt before the game, the outlook did not look good. How wrong you can be, enter Kane Mattson......in what was his coming of age Kane pitched his full quota only giving up 1 run (with a high percentage of strikes), made some catches on the mound and then hit a double to score 2 runs - I am impressed in Kane's endeavour and revised attitude to himself and the team and added responsibility and a new outlook has changed his interest in the game, well done (and some of the other boys could learn a valuable lesson here) Ably supported by Matt Franke behind the mask (if only he threw back on the chest), Jack Goldsworthy with solid hitting and Jackson Holst closing the game after a hiccup with our middle closer We were assisted by a struggling opposition in the pitching department and scored many runs on walks with our hitting still below par. Unfortunately we were unable to finish the game as we started and let a 14-1 lead slip to a 14-7 win. Thanks to all the parents who came and supported the boys, thanks to the scoring contingent and thanks for Trevor letting me coach the side to a win, much more enjoyable.
Footnote - Playford City and the SABL should look at the type of people they allow to supervise their teams, their language and their attitude, I feel we at Sturt set a professional example which is to be proud of. Well played lads.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
We were let off on Sunday with a 9-0 win, through a Glenelg side that were unable to field a side. An unfortunate way to come away with points.... What can I say, nice opportunity for a sleep in. We have some tough opposition in the weeks to come, and I'm sure the boys will be revved up after the break to get into some more wins. I'd like to take this chance to thank my assistant coach Gary Wood for his effort to get two wins while I was in India.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Evelyn and Simon Gooley on the arrival of a baby girl, Elisa Sheridan Gooley. Born 26/11/04 at Ashford. Weighed in at 7lb 6oz. Well done!

Merry Christmas!
On behalf of the Sturt Baseball Club, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all players, parents, coaches, umpires, scorers, managers and spectators a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year. It has been a very busy first half of the season with all teams enjoying a variety of success. We look forward to 2005 with optimism as we see all teams have a strong run into the Finals. Thanks to everyone who has contributed both on and off the field so far this season, your help is much appreciated.

Division 1
The Jeckyl and Hyde Saints rolled up again on the weekend to face East Torrens in a doubleheader at home.In the first game we lost 16-0 making an abundance of unforced errors as well as breaking down in fundamental play. Darren French swam from Murray Bridge to start the pitching and compounded his own problems by walking the first couple of hitters to get the ball rolling. He battled away, having to make excess outs per innings and was left out there so we could have some pitching for Wednesday night.Out of 6 innings, they only scored in 2,unfortunately they amounted to 16 runs. Not many highlights for us in this game, a stand up double to Chris Hyatt being one. As we have done before, we re-grouped for the second game knowing we were half a chance behind the pitching of Telmo. We had a welcome visit from Zac Stokes (here to spend Xmas with his family and have a sinus operation) and he added some stability to our line up, picking up two hits for 2 RBI's --- not bad for a guy who has not swung a bat for a month or so! Chris Hyatt continued his good form with three hits (2 stand up doubles) and was supported by all players who chipped in somewhere. Our fielding was back to the standard we are capable of and with Telmo throwing his heart out we got over the line for a very important win. We are honest enough as a group to recognise that when we don’t perform it is not up to scratch but you must commend this group on their ability to bounce back. One more before the Xmas break, Northern Districts on Wednesday (at Northern Districts), it would be great to have as much support as possible.

Division 2
Division 2 finished off the first half with a very competitive game against the top side East Torrens, eventually losing 7-4. Brian McGuiness has been a real find this year and pitched very well to hold East Torrens to a low score. This team is improving each week and I believe the second half of the season will see them notch up a few wins.

Division 3
Div 3 travelled out to Northern Districts keen for a victory but were pipped at the post, losing in the last innings 11-10. It was a pretty good game with highlights coming from Brian Mcgree and Andy Alderson who belted home runs at crucial stages in the match. We look forward to more improvement from this side in the new year.

Division 4
The Div 4 side cruised down to Woodville only to face a fired up Ian Reval. After being in the game for most of the day the boys eventually lost 11-6. They are still on track for a finals appearance again this season.

Division 6
Well well well! We did it! Div 6 no longer owns a goose egg in the real win column!!!! We went to northern districts willing to put up a good fight and we held our heads high and went for it. With the pitching of Bruce Lucas and Peter Turner and a solid outfield {which buy the way had no errors and some great catches} and a tight infield we battled on!!. Then nth dist came back fighting and we were down by a few runs but the boys rattled the bats and made 5 runs. We did our best to hold them and ended up winning 11-7 . Again, thanks to all the boys who came out on this great historical day, after the break we play at southern districts then we have 4 games in a row at Sturt. HAPPY HOLIDAY TO ALL AT THE CLUB AND TO ALL PARENTS AND PLAYERS

Under 18
What a pleasing way to end the season by defeating East Torrens 14-6 in a solid display by all players. Shane Horne and Jake Gibson showed enormous improvement on the mound during the first half of the season and we look forward to this continuing in 2005. Tim Boundy and Jarrad Thornquest have made the important transition to senior baseball and are going to be players to watch in few years time. It was pleasing also to see the improvement in Anthony Galpin who has settled in nicely and will just keep getting better. Well done to Adam Kerr for his best game of the season on Sunday!

Under 16 Division 1
When playing a poor opposition it is always difficult to maintain your own standards but I thought we did this well on Sunday by beating East Torrens 17-2. Everyone played well but I thought Paul Grant and Tom Abbott showed how much they have improved by playing outstanding games on the weekend. I look forward to 2005 and a finals berth for this young team.

Under 14 Division 1
The boys knew they had a game on their hands at Woodville. But with solid fielding and hitting they came through again. Toby Cantrills 2 home runs was the big highlight of the day and as well as Sams at bats which were great. Sebs catching was also really good. The boys came to bat in the last dig up by 2 runs and needed to put the game away, Mick and Jaye revved the boys up they came out and scored the 7 runs just to make sure it was. The boys then had to go out in the field and hold Woodville which they did. A great win for the boys who now have only lost 1 game this half, and are in 1st place!!!! Well done to all the boys!!!

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt and Saints
Showdown Two, Sturt versus Saints Some great defensive work by Sturt and an embarrassing bone head play by the Saints coach, limited the Saints to only two runs at the bottom of the third. Strong hitting and too many basic defensive errors brought Sturt to a very comfortable nine run lead. Three up, three down for Sturt and three runs by the Saints in the fourth brought the score to 5-11. The Saints had a chance. With some good batting and a bit of luck, the boys managed to level the score. At the bottom of the fifth and final innings, Sturt were starting at the top of their order and needed only one run to win. A clutch hit down the middle by Jarred Pearce followed by a two base hit to centre field by Zac Cross brought half of the spectators to their feet, ending the game 12-11. Hayden Pocock took the catch of the day at centre field, by dragging down a massive hit by Tom Teague. Max Caon loves to hurt the Saints; hitting four for four in our first encounter and two for two in the second. Cameron and William Thorpe and Kyle Larson hit well for the Saints. Alistair Young was strong and tough behind the plate as always and also hit well. Thank you to the four Saints boys who all “played the bench” very well.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt versus Saints
Sturt came from behind to beat a feisty Saints team in our last game before the break. Saints hopes were high until the Sturt boys unleashed a crushing rally to give us a 13-9 victory. This win gives us a 9 and 2 record as we rest up for a strong last half of the season. Have a happy and safe holiday.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt
A disappointing 9-12 loss to Woodville to finish of the first half of the season. Again our batting let us down with just a few scattered hits.

Kane Mattson performed very well on the mound to keep Woodville down in the early part of the game but unfortunately we couldn't get into the game with the runs.

A well deserved break for the boys until it all starts up again in the new year.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints
With the coach away the Saints easily account for West Torrens 11-3. A fantastic first half from the boys and we look forward to further improvement in 2005!

Division 1 Last Wednesday night we played Adelaide in a twilight game and the realities of twilight baseball came rushing back. Players arriving late and in a fluster (none of it being their fault),diamond preparation a little below par all giving rise to the subject of their worth. Upon saying that, two games on the same day is also taking its toll, especially on our young group. Back to the game, we mucked up in a couple of innings to allow them 8 runs and lost 9-1. We did enough right in this game to post a better scoreline and take advantage of an opportunity that was being given to us, unfortunately we couldn’t do it. Daniel Turner and Craig Passmore shared the pitching and did a really good job, Ben Catalano continued his stellar form.

Sunday saw us take on Goodwood in a doubleheader and we fared well. We lost the 1st game 7-6, Having loaded bases 0 out in the last inning we were unable to convert any runs to take the prize, Frenchy threw the 6 innings and did another good job, the team collected 7 or 8 hits to just miss out. The second game saw us lose 15-6 and although there were some tired boys out there they never gave up trying. Stuart Crutchley, Ben Catalano and Tim Brewer all collected multiple hits to finish a great days work, the pitchers all tried hard. We travel to Kensington Wednesday night for a twilight and to Glenelg Sunday for a doubleheader.

Division 2 The Division 2 side lost a competitive game to Goodwood 8-2. Everyone played solid baseball but was unable to put the score on the board when it counted. Tom Winter pitched 8 very good innings.

Division 3 Div 3 faced Glenelg who have won the last 3 premierships in this grade. The boys lost 8-0 but there were still lots of positive signs of improvement.

Division 4 In a game the Saints should have won easily, the boys scraped home in the last innings to win 7-6. I think the hot conditions took there toll on the old boys!!

Division 6 Firstly i want to give a big thank you to all 13 guys who came out to golden grove on Saturday!! We gave it our best as usual, and behind 10 -0 after first digs we were" behind the eight ball" but that is when we have done our best, and worst, and about everything else. But hey, we need a challenge, and we get one every week. One great mention is to Simon Brettig out in outfield, he can cover a lot of ground, make great catches, and swing a bat and make a connection. this is his 1st year in div 6 and with Sturt. But we went down fighting again! Now we go forward to take on another side this Saturday and the poor team this week is Henley and Grange, away game for Sturt. The following week we play at Northern Districts. After that we have the break and 1 more away game and then we defend our home ground 4 weeks in a row!!!!! Again a big thanks to all the guys who came out to Golden Grove!!!!

Under 18 The Under 18s played a great game to defeat Adelaide 16-9. One bad innings from the Saints made the score much closer than it should have been. Daniel Clifford was on fire with 5 for 5 hits on the day, Tim Boundy has been fantastic behind the plate and with the bat and Shane Horne keeps improving on the mound. Keep it up!

Under 16 Division 1 The Under 16s faced a tough Goodwood lineup and rallied in the last innings to be up 10-9 but gave up 2 late runs to lose 11-10. Very good effort from everyone in tough conditions. This side is now starting to learn never to give up because you never know what can happen.

Under 14 Division 1 The boys played their toughest game on Sunday against Kensington. Kensington came out with a couple of runs straight away but the Sturt boys came back with 7 runs in their 1st digs and that helped the boys but Kensington were not going to be beaten easy. and it went back and forth and the day was becoming longer and hotter and the Sturt boys fell behind and seemed to lack spirit but came back to make 7 runs again and go ahead then Kensington tried to come back but the boys held them and scored a few more runs and finished with a 20-11 win.

Toby started and did a great job and Daniel finished on the mound. Beau was his usual great in center field, Seb and Hugh took turns catching and both did a fantastic job on such a hot day. and Cody had 2 doubles and all the boys had a great turn at bat and that’s all they have to do is just keep on batting and the runs just follow on. It was like I said a great game but also the toughest for them. Job very well done.

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt No Report

Under 14 Division 2 Saints The Saints had a convincing win against East Torrens 20-4. This was an important game for us as we were level on the table with this unpredictable team which beat us on our previous encounter. Finally, we managed to get the jump on the opposition with the score being 7-1 at the bottom of the first and 14-2 at the bottom of the second. Every player contributed to this game as the score indicates. William Thorpe intimidated the batters with his pace from the mound while Alistair Young kept the runners honest from behind the plate. An early “caught stealing” at second base by Alistair and Trent Small set the tone for the remainder of the game. Well done to everyone including our parents for their help. Thanks to Trevor Colmer for an excellent umpiring performance in such hot conditions.

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt Sturt came from behind to down Kensington 9-8 at Flinders. Any win is a good one but the boys were far from their best in the early morning heat. Two hits to William Brennan and a double to Sam Hollis helped turn the game around. David Nicholas pitched three solid innings to hold out the Cardinals. We play Port on Sunday at 1pm.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints The boys had another excellent win over Port Adelaide 14-12.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt Our best performance of the year saw the Sturt boys completely outplay West Torrens with a final score line 15-6. Everything seemed to gel on the day with our pitchers dominating from the beginning and were well supported by strong hitting by the whole team.

Richard Edwards and Alex Martens contained the Eagles to just a few scattered hits with Matthew Franke behind the mask making sure that their runs didn't come easily. Without a doubt the main difference between the 2 teams was our strong batting with all the boys getting hits. Particular mention to must go Richard Edwards who hit the ball with authority all day long.

A very pleasing result and a good team effort where everybody contributed to the win. A big thank you to Kym Burns, Paul Straatman and Richard Edwards Snr who were on the job early in the morning to set up the diamond. I'm still perplexed however, why 4 dads have trouble erecting a simple shade tent when I've seen some of the mums put them up in 2minutes flat. I'm sure by the end of the season we'll have it worked out.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints Oh dear, The Saints went down to the Dodgers on Sunday. This was going to be a tough game for us, we had beaten them in our first match, and they have been steadily improving. Saints were number 3 on the ladder and Dodgers number 4. Our boys batted well, with everyone getting amongst the action. Harrison Wood hit 3 safe hits, 2 each to Josh Masters, Sam Roberts and Spiros Rozaklis. Josh picked up 2 RBI's, along with Jack Colyer. Sam Osmond has come a long way with the bat and also picked up a safe hit and an RBI in the process. Billy Burford is leading the award for the batter hit most times by a pitched ball in a season, but is handling it like a lad many times bigger than he is. We had two unlucky batting innings, The first and the third. In the first, Adam Hofmeyer came in second to bat and cracked one straight back which their pitcher snatched out of the air to make the second out. Harrison hit safe, but when Mitchell drove the ball straight back at the pitcher, he was put out at first. Nothing wrong with our batting, just beaten by good fielding. Our effort in the field was nothing to be ashamed of. Our Pitchers struck out 5 batters, and only gave up 3 hits. There were however a number of wild pitches with runners on 3rd that cost runs. Adam Hofmeyer started the first with Sam Roberts pitching the second and Josh Masters pitching the third. All boys succummed to the heat on the day and their arms tired quickly, but all battled on bravely. A mention must go to our 2 catchers, Harrison Wood and Sam Osmond, who performed well in the 30 plus heat. Thanks also to Tim Roberts for his help on First base, and to the parents who have come out North on two hot Sundays to support their boys.

The club wishes you all the best. Division 1 Double Header Please make sure you get down to the club this Sunday from midday as the Saints take on Goodwood for the Fred Catt - Phil White Cup. This trophy has been named after two players who represented these clubs with pride and passion. Make sure you get to the ground to support the Saints to help get the trophy back to the club!

Division 1 On Sunday we travelled to Golden Grove for a single 9 innings game (the last of such until our break in mid December). With Telmo on the mound we were confident of competing strongly and unless something miraculous occurred, of bringing home the points. After watching the U/18's and B Grade win comfortably (congratulations to both) it set the scene for the A Grade and we delivered winning 6--4.Although the scoreline reads close, I felt we were always in control but cruising through a game and leaving a game 'up for grabs' can blow up in your face once in a while. We are still a very young group with so much to learn and achieve and Iam sure with the dedication and determination this group possess they will take this on board and continue to improve. Telmo started a bit slowly, giving up 1 in the 1st and 3 in the third before knuckling down to throw 6 shutout innings and collecting 16 strikeouts for the game. Just to have a pitcher with the skill and durability to throw a complete game is a bonus for the Saints and a credit to Telmo himself -- Well Done. Ben Catalano was in fine form, hitting the fence at his 1st at bat to score a run then going one better at his second at bat putting one out for a 2 run home run(I would say his first for some time).Along with this a fine effort behind the plate gave him Man of the Match honours in a brilliant game. Chris Hyatt continues his steady improvement, a line drive Sac fly and a stand up double rounding out a nice day for Chris. All players contributed somewhere along the line in a good solid team effort. It has to be noted that this was Tom Winters A Grade debut this season and he is coaching the rampaging C grade and throwing here and there also, putting in a huge effort for the club, always with a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Paul Holmes and Daniel Turner are also helping out in the U/18's,for a bit of extra game time and helping the club, and are there at 6.00pm at night still competing hard in the A Grade doing an incredible job. Congratulations to both for making the U/18 State Team, richly deserved reward. Wednesday night we play Adelaide in our first twilight game (6.00pm start),please come down to the club for a drink and support us in our climb back up the ladder.

Division 2 Division 2 had a win against Golden Grove 9-2. Andrew Grego pitched well and the boys got the bats going for a good day out. Well done to Simon Brooks playing in his first B grade game this season.

Division 3 The Div 3 side bounced back well after the previous weeks disappointing game and defeated East Torrens 13-1. Brian McGuiness and Tom Winter shared the pitching duties and shut the RedSox out. Div 6 had an interesting game against Kensington. The boys lost 15-3 but by all reports w

Division 4 Division 4 had a tough game against West Torrens – eventually losing 8-3.

Division 6 Div 6 had an interesting game against Kensington. The boys lost 15-3 but by all reports wwe won the fights! With Paul Mildren back in charge the boys beat Golden Grove easily 9-3. Jake Gibson did another

Under 18 With Paul Mildren back in charge the boys beat Golden Grove easily 9-3. Jake Gibson did another Gibson did another good job and it was great to finally see Jarrad Thornquest back on the mound again!!

Under 16 Division 1 What a game! The boys showed a lot of character to come from behind to draw with Golden Grove 8 all. A tremendous result given the nature of the game. Andrew Hall came up with the clutch hit in the last innings for 2 RBIs that were crucial. He has worked very hard on his game and the hard work is really starting to pay off – well done Andrew. Everyone contributed to the result and I look forward to a similar effort this week against Goodwood.

Under 14 Division 1 After last weeks shock loss, the Saints bounced back to defeat the top of the table West Torrens side 9-1. This was a great game and everyone played very well.

Under 14 Division 2 Sturt Not a good day… We lost to Glenelg 23-5. Boys made some silly fielding errors. One main Highlight was Jarrad Pearce's run which lifted the teams spirits. We will look forward to next week.

Under 14 Division 2 Saints Having played a twilight game on Thursday night meant that we used up 2 pitchers for the week, leaving us a little hollow for our Sunday game against the Dodgers. Thursday night was a hard fought battle against West Torrens. As has often been the way for our team, the result came down to the last batter of the last innings. We drew 13 each. Batting 3 up, 3 down and giving up 7 runs in the first also seems the norm for our team and Sunday was no exception. Once again we were playing catch-up. Retiring our starting pitcher with a sore arm after only 37 pitches from a possible 80 made our task even more difficult. First year rookie baseballer, Tom Teague, found himself on the mound, looking unsure and a little nervous. Six pitches later he struck out the first batter. He grew stronger and more confident every pitch, ending up with a total of 5 strike outs and only walking 5 batters with his full 80 pitches. A remarkable performance, Tom! At the bottom of the 5th innings the Dodgers needed 4 runs to win and I was quietly confident that we could hold them. Unfortunately, this was not to be. We went down 13-16. All in all this was a good challenging game and our boys showed improvements in several areas. Well done, Saints!

Under 12 Division 1 Sturt Sturt went down 7-3 to West Torrens in our most disappointing performance of the season. The boys put in a great pre-game then went “out to lunch”. Twilight at GG tonight, then Kensington 9 am Sunday at Flinders.

Under 12 Division 1 Saints Two great wins during the last week have given us our 6th win in a row and cementing us in 5th spot which is fantstastic .Every player in the team is contributing in all areas of the game. The results have been amazing considering that over half the team are 9 and 10 year olds. The scores were Saints 17 -Goodwood 0 and Saints 15 - Norths 7.Keep up the great work .Thanks to all the parents who are sharing the load and helping out .It makes Chris and my job a lot easier. We head down the Port this week who are just iut of the top 6.

Under 12 Division 2 Sturt Northern Districts 15 defeated Sturt 7. A disappointing result for a game that we were expected to win! However, Northern Districts outplayed us with the bat and in the field. I must admit though some of their players were a fair size and looked more like U14 players than U/12 (must be something in the water out there). A lot of our players were down on form this week which was reflected in the final score. Our batting continues to be a concern with only a few scattered safe hits from Jack Colmer, Matthew Franke, Richard Edwards, Jack Goldsworthy and Alex Martens. Our fielding is improving with good performances from Kane Mattson in outfield and solid performances behind the mask by Matthew Franke and Tom Renfrey. Our pitching was a little off target this week but with some concentrated efforts at training results will improve.

Under 12 Division 2 Saints The saints had a lucky win against Playford City on Sunday, getting up 11-10. Our boys kept a tight field as they have been doing so far this season. Highlights in the field, were Sam Osmond's effort at catcher making a throw to Adam Hofmeyer at 3rd to tag a runner. Sam also charged back a runner to 3rd base after a wild pitch. His throws to 2nd are also getting to a stage where he will get outs soon. Adam Hofmeyer was also amongst the action with plays at 3rd, and outs while fielding at 1st. Jack Colyer fielded well at 2nd to put out a batter at 1st. Sam Roberts started on the mound striking out 4 batters and only conceded 1 hit. Sam them went to right field and performed well in support of his infield. Matt May pitched the 3rd and picked up 2 strike outs. Harrison Wood caught the 3rd and kept the ball in front of him at all times, stopping a couple of tough pitches. The saints are playing a tight field, and are not prone to chasing runners around the diamond with the ball, as we have seen others do to our advantage. Our effort with the bat was not as encouraging as in previous weeks. Highlights were, Billy Burford crossing home plate and bunny hopping for joy after a steal. Harrison Wood got a safe hit to right field that put 3 runners across the plate. Sam Osmond got a hit and I'm sure a big boost to his confidence. He has been working hard to improve his hitting and it's showing. Tyler Blanks, Spiros Rozaklis and Sam Roberts aslo got safe hits. We hit the road again this coming Sunday, heading out to Golden Grove for what could be a tough game, but looking to take another win.
